Howdy people I am looking for some advice. 1992 UZZ31. 1uz-fe. My car will not start and has been having problems wile driving (Automatic Trans) the car will all of a sudden stall. Like it has been starved of fuel . A former mechanic which i had been getting to do services etc, mentioned it to be a fuel pump relay. Once this stalling happens it takes quite a few tries to restart it. This problem has gone down hill to the point it wont start at all. I am used to fixing my old carby engine types. This is my first Fuel injected car. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hey Ben - have a search through this particular forum, you will likely learn alot about the car in your hunt for the answer, and come out better informed about the Soarer than any mechanic you meet. This problem has likely been covered multiple times before, and you will likely find a step by step fix for the problem with just a few minutes of searching.

Hi Ben,
Sounds like a similar problem to what I've been having. Car will drive fine, then all of a sudden cut out. For me it turned out to be the Fuel Pump Control Module (or Fuel Pump ECU). It's behind the back seat on the B Pillar and looks like a small amp.
Apparently this is a fairly common problem (with the cars getting to the age they are). I've started a post in the Wanted to Buy thread, looking for a replacement and have sourced one for myself, there was a couple of replies there that you may want to follow up.

Thank you guys i will go over the information you have supplied and gather anything else from the forums i can to fix my problem. I will post up more when i get to the cause of it. Ben
Try bridging FP to b+ and start your car, if this solves your problem, most probably it will be your fuel pump ecu that stuffed. It happened to me before and had to get it replaced.

Mike, it is true, the fuel filter could be the problem. Years ago I had an Alfa and the inside of the fuel tank was rusting and the rust would partially block the fuel filter and caused the car to stall.

easiest check to eliminate the fuel ECu, as advised above , go to the diagnostic port(LHS rocker cover) and short FP to B+ with a pce of wire. Leave the wire in and drive for a day or so and see if the problem is "fixed"

Most likely the pump ECU, but worth changing the fuel filter if its never been done.
BUT - Its a horrible, horrible job replacing the fuel filter if its never been done before. Make sure you have a really good set of flared spanners before you start, as well as some disposable gloves as having fuel pouring over your hands when you work is really unpleasant. Run the car down to its dregs on the tank. Put some copper grease on the threads before you put the new filter in so the next poor bugger that has to do it won't have to struggle so much!
