I use Penrite now days, simply because the 5 litre container is good value. Used to use Castrol Magnatec which was great stuff, but only available in 4 litre and 1 litre, so worked out quite a lot more expensive.

I am surprised you can't get it in 5L containers in NZ, no problems getting it here. I have used Magnatec since I got my Soarer in 2004 and its been excellent!

Topped up with cheap crap after my oil filter came loose for some reason and leaked out about a litre but I service it with penrite 10-40. I don't know what makes a good oil or a bad oil but its fully synthetic and I haven't had any issues yet. And yeah 5L is a handy size.

Yep- run it in the track car after watching video shot from outside during motorkhana. Blue smoke on lift off etc when the car was HOT. Went to the thicker oil to solve this (I was on the reccommended 5W30 which I have used for many years in the road car.) Had no issuse since.
Not sure if your car needs a thicker oil as I did it due to the fact my oil temps often sit up around 120 deg which is too high, really.

The real trick is to regularly change your oil..5000 klm's or 2 months ! I tend to use Mobil 1 and Valvoline alternately (different detergents help keep it cleaner) with 300,000 klms it seems to work for me.

I wouldn't put Mobile 1 in any car, there have been a number of engines which have failed whilst used Mobile 1 under harsh conditions ie track days where the engine failure cause was traced back to oil break down. The same engines held up fine with other brands of oil.
Second reason I wouldn't use it is Mobile 1 fairs poorly in every good oil test and is commonly used by other manufactures as the other leading brand for direct comparison when they demonstrate how much better there oil is. Which only really proves how crap mobile 1 is but looks great from a marketing prospective.
