Hey everyone, My 1uzfe has a bad miss and is running very rich, its hesitant to rev up and at idle sounds like its running a really lumpy cam (shakes around and has a different exhaust note) I disconnected the afm which made a slight improvement to the running of the engine, i than disconnected both throttle position sensors and the motor calmed right down. It started idling smoother and didn't sound like it was misfiring but there was heaps of black smoke when i reved it suggesting the cars still running rich. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Or it could be the ECU. They can develop a fault that keeps a pair of injectors open. This can then also cause hydro lock if the ignition is left on without the engine running causing the cylinders to flood.

Ok guys I've done abit mor mucking around and I have found the coils to be fine, so I can eliminate that as the problem, I did find water in the rear plug holes aswell on the passenger side but I cleaned that out and am still having the same problem. I'm starting to think it could be the ecu as Peter suggested because the car usually starts first time but I left the ignition on for about an hour I then switched it on and off a few times left it on again, and tried to start it. The car was harder to start this time and cranked over for alot longer than usual, and then when It did finally start heaps of black smoke came out of the exhausts and smelt really rich as if it was flooded. So if the ecu is the problem, do I have to replace it or can I fix the fault? Thanks for the help so far fella's

Best thing to do when replacing the capacitors is to cut the original ones off at the top of the leads then solder the new ones onto the old leads.
With the age of the ECU board it's better to not try remove the original leads from he board as you risk pulling or damaging the copper tracks - pretty much bye bye ECU if that happens.

Ok thank you for the info/ tips guys, I will swap the ecu over with a known working one before I go changing capacitors ect I know this maybe a silly question but is there a difference between the ecu's in the uzz31 and the 32's?

I believe they are the same, but it's year dependant.
Just cross reference the part numbers.
One other thing with the ECU, if the capacitors have leaked badly enough and have sat for a longtime, the fluid can actually damage the board circuit tracks. Shortly after getting the 1UZ working in my BMW the capacitors started leaking, fortunately I knew what the problem was within days and sorted it before too long so the ECU tracks weren't damaged.
