After searching a few threads I haven't come across this problem.
Now that my soarer can accelerate, I have noticed the tacho bar randomly flashes up and down all the way to redline. While cruising it displays correctly.
Also my speedo isn't too accurate on the freeway. At 105 it flickers between 103 and 106 then settles at what I assume to be correct speed before doing it again a minute later.

Can all these be related to the speed sensor?
