Hey all, as the title reads I'm looking at purchasing some new rims and tyres to fit.

What I'm currently looking at are CSA Raker 17x8 +36 rims and some Pirelli P7 215/45 tyres.

What do you all think? Are there any negatives with this set-up?

EDIT: I currently have 16" (I believe) stock rims with 215/55 up front and 225/60 on the back.
The tires were put on by the previous owner and have not changed them since purchasing the car.

Close to stock sizing. Depends what you want to achieve.

Could go a lot larger if you wanted.

Plenty of threads here.

Hey Matt, thanks for the input.

I expected it'd be close to what the car comes with, I'm just wanting nicer shinier rims that don't make my car ride like a bicycle on a downhill course.

Cheers.

17's are a great choice on a Soarer (doesn't make it look like mutton dressed as lamb like 19's do, IMO - and as you note don't compromise ride) but if I was you I'd go wider - 215's just look too skinny IMO. Move up to a 9"+ width rim and go for say 245's or wider at the rear. I have Supra 16" rims and run 245/50R16's at the back and 225/55R16's at the front. The Soarer has a fat behind and looks a bit funny on skinny rubber for those following you.

Personally i think 18's is the best looking size.

18's are a good size, and rubber is a lot cheaper in 18" than it used to be, so not a bad choice from an economic POV. Ride does start to get noticeably harsher though, in my experience.

Okay, so after a month of researching as well as not being able to get the rim I initially wanted
I have now come to a pretty good deal.

Speedywheels Cobalts 17x8 (+35 Offset)
With Goodyear F1 Directional 5's at 235/45 all round.

What do you guys think?

Sounds good to me - Don't know anything about Speedywheels, no doubt they are all safety code compliant so should be fine - from the pic on the website they look pretty nice too. Offset should be OK though I note they do a +48 in the same size which would be closer to factory. Nothing wrong with Goodyears - sizing seems good. If the price is right then should be good. v Don't forget spigot rings as the spigot hole is too large for the Soarer.

Connor, I would recommend a bigger width at the rear. I am Running 18x8 front and 18x9 rear, before that I had some 17x7.5 front and 17x8.5 rears. Due to being rear wheel drive you would run wider wheels at the rear, 4WD you run the same all around and FWD you run slightly wider on the front or the same all around.

@Matt, The 17x8 +48 versions are a 120 PCD? Didn't think that'd work on a Soarer (forgive my newbness when it comes to this sort of stuff, just learning really).
Where would I purchase 4 spigot rings and do I need a particular size or something? What details should I be looking for?

@James, What if I were to just run a slightly larger profile and width tyre on the back? I know that having a 17x8 rim, I should still have a bit more room for a larger tyre?

Thanks guys, much obliged.
Have a happy Easter!

To add to my previous post, goodyear seem to stock them in 225/45, 235/45 and 245/45.
What if I were to do 225 at the front and 245 at the rear? Or perhaps 235 front and 245 rear?

Quite right, didn't spot the PCD change - 120 PCD will not fit.

Whenever I've bought wheels I've just insisted they fit the rings when fitting - they charge a few dollars for them (maybe $40 or $60 6 years ago or so) - I'm told metal ones are better, but I ran plastic ones for years with no problems

I run 225 at the front and 245 at the rear - turn in is noticeably better at speed than with 245 all around.

I like to go with what size width the rims are as to the width tyres. Admittedly I am running 235's on the front and 265's on the rear but I do use this set up on the track and the road, awesome at going around those corners at speed if the road is dry but not so when it's wet.

My rule is a 235 size tyre for an 8-8.5 inch wide rim.

I didn't put it there, the previous owner badged it as an SC400 however did not remove the griffin.
I haven't really been stuffed to remove it as yet

Thanks though, I'm pretty stoked :-)
