Hey guys,
I have done some readings online as well as some youtube clip, people in the state using Sea Foam to clear out carbon deposit and stuff from the engine. After using it the engine eventually run better in a sense less noise, better fuel consumption, better respond, gain abit of power, start better and run smoother.
I found out that in Australia they call it Subaru top engine cleaner ( yes it's from subaru). I know this product had been rise pretty much a few time back in those days in this forum, but i really want to know had anyone been using it here and able to give me some advice for using it.
My V8 recently start ups fine but it just take sometime to start as every first start will start it but it just crank a few second more where it used to be and i has abit of white smoke every time i started it for the first time( cold start? normal?). Engine noise sound abit rough though. It's had 245,000kms on it now.
As i had found out this product able to provide all the above goods as well as a risk. The risk is, the carbon deposits in the engine might be the one that sealing off some small leaks and keeping the compression. the engine cleaner will dilute them and off it goes( suggested to change engine oil after using). So after using it there might be more issues such as burning fuel or oil, a bit low compression or leaks? ( I'm really not sure about this.)
Anyone had used this kind of product before do give me some advice. I will be much appreciated.
Jason, I recommend the Subaru cleaner works very well. I've also used the Nulon air intake foaming cleanser. The carbon deposits affect your compression ratio and in turn retard your timing, but in a car like the soarer will dual knock sensors its not that big of an issue as the ecu will pick this up and adjust the timing accordingly. I also used it in my carby Corolla and the car felt 10x better to drive and the pinging stopped. I've also used it in my EFI Corolla 16v and it worked beautifully in exchange for one of the spark plugs dying but the plug was very old. Give it a try mate should be fine!

Thanks Guys! More advice needed! and people who used them please come forward and leave a comment an opinion.
I'm a bit chicken out on doing this as i scared more problem will occur and i end up changing the whole engine or so ( currently low on budget to change a whole engine)
is there any other similar or 'safer' product able to do so as well and have good result?

Peter, nope haven't replace any thing in engine at the moment.
Derick, i had read that before, doing it on V8 seems a bit more easy. just need to remove the vacuum line and let it suck in or spay in. check out the video below for a better idea how it is done
Tai, yeah as I stated above it killed one of my plugs! but they were in need of replacing soon, I'd suggest if you had any old plugs lying around to sacrifice them rather than recently new plugs. I'm unsure as to whether Subaru do the plugs after, but it is a must you drop your oil and replace the filter and new oil. I do it the day I am servicing my car. Once I have sprayed the intake, I then remove the EFI fuse and turn the engine over for a few seconds to suck the foam into the head. I then let it sit for an hour at least, some Subaru owners actually leave it over night. I suggest an hour and make sure your engine is warmed up before you do it so it can take advantage of the heat to 'melt' away the carbon deposits. When you start your car it will foam like crazy and sound like you've installed a lump cam, once it is at operating temperature, I take the car for a drive and give it a good run taking it through the revs. A few 0-60 runs and you'll see in the rear mirror at higher revs the carbon filled smoke pouring out. The car will immediately feel smoother. In my carby corolla the idle became very smooth and the idle dropped from ~1000rpm to ~800rpm without adjusting the throttle position/idle position.

Thats why you killed plugs... Do your service. Run engine get it warm then spray upper cylinder cleaner in. Dont worry about sucking it into the chamber. Put half the can of subaru cleaner in the intake. Leave to rest for 5-10 minutes. Start the car and idle at 1500-1700 for about a minute to suck it through. Then take a vacuum hose off an even point near throttle body and spray the rest of can in while controlling throttle to close to 2000rpm until can is empty, refit the vacuum hose then road test car. If you do it while car is cold or overload combustion chamber while it isnt running you will kill your plugs. I have to do 5-6 a day with subaru.
Also make sure you do it outside in a well ventilated area as if there is much build up will blow alot of smelly white smoke that well.. Isnt good for ya haha
Shouldnt have to do it every service with our engines unless you have blowby or pcv problem or turbo seals leaking. Only reason subaru do it every service is due to the pcv problems of the boxer type engine.

Bahahahahahahahaha smoke machine! Lol My mate had a ford laser. It was a bucket. Anyway the master cylinder was leaking into the booster and the engine was sucking brake fluid up through it. It also burns white. So when he would start it up of a morning and leave it in reverse while he goes and has a coffee, would smoke the whole street about 100m each way. By the time he had his coffee and got ready for work it would be ready to actually have drive in the transmission... Haha i thought a house was on fire dirst time i saw it driving towards his house lol that car has so many funny stories. He has a kluger now. No more car problems. Until his wife learns to park without hitting poles at the shopping centres

Just my 2c worth, I used to work for Subaru parts and could get these cans for <$5 each, so I used to stock up on them. Every car I've had I couldn't wait to shove it through the system, as well as the Subaru fuel additive (injector cleaner etc) due to getting the cans at bullshit low prices.
In my JZA80, the first time I used it (2JZ-GE) I immediately noticed the smoother acceleration and generally better idle. It was also awesome fun smoking the street out with thick white smoke after its first start up (and second half of the can).
I've used the upper engine cleaner in an assortment of cars from my own Supras, Soarers, to my mates S15's, Charades, etc. Never had an issue afterwards and all have noticed positive responses from their motors.
Another thing this is good for is if you have a motor apart, it makes cleaning the carbon off valves, pistons etc a breeze.
