Hey guys fairly new to the v8 portion of soarers.
Basically ive searched and cannot really find or come up with a definitive answer.
For my uzz31 race car the radiator is cracked and also have a slight leak from expansion tank. I wish to upgrade to an alloy one and trying to figure out the best way to do it.
Either want to: get v8 radiator, allows me to run hydro fan setup still, and somehow replace with aftermarket expansion tank if anyone know of any. Or bypass hose and have a cap neck welded to the top of radiator.
Other option is to get a tt radiator and slightly adapt the larger v8 hoses onto the radiator outlets, run thermo fans and delete hydro setup..

I cannot see why a good radiator without the expansion tank would not do the job!

I have seen an alloy expansion tank somewhere with the pressure cap on it.

Or just run a TT radiator.

Reason why i want to get rid of them is the fact they are broken. Alloy radiator is cheaper than a replacement original and id rather not go second hand. My brothers car and a few others i have seen have cracked or leaking expansion tanks.
The problem with tt radiator is the outlets are smaller. Tt is 34mm from memory and v8 is 38mm. I just dont know if the reduction will cause flow problems.

Just jap use to do s13 silvia ones the one I got was rufly the same size I think. They won't be straight bolt in but should work but you will need the right.cap. the one that's sold with it won't be right. You can't not use the exspansion tank unless you drop the motor lower than the top of radiator? Cap has to be highest part in system to work? Well that's what I thought.

Cap doesnt have to be the highest part but if you bleed system with an extender on the cap to make it higher than the bleed screw to get all the air out, then tighten bleed screw and do up cap.
This is the setup i have now. So much better than a cut up bottle haha

It's actually a bubble tank, supposed to trap air in the system. Get one for a late model V8, no level sensor, so no leaks.

Also, there is a bleeder on the water bridge across the front of the engine, back of the the thermostat housing.

Dan's right with the other bleeder on the water bridge ,,, thats where your ment to bleed the system when re-fulling the radiator .

Yeah the nice sized bolt. I used it when i filled it up with coolant to pressure test to look for the leaks.
Am i able to delete hydo fan assembly as im not running aircon? I have seen people use 2uz pulley and mount but wondering if i can actually just delete it all together and run thermo fan setup. Then i would just go the tt radiator and weld an adaptor onto the ends to accept larger v8 radiator hoses.

Yep, Hydro fan can be removed and thermo's run in it's place.

Hydro fan is a great system though. Uses negligible power when not running and moves way more air than thermo's could dream of when needed.

Yeah id like to keep the hydro setup for now. So i might try get the v8 radiator and weld a cap neck on. Then the fan shroud and fan setup should bolt up and if i ever need to get rid of it i can just make up a custom shroud and thermofan setup.

Aaron why dont you go for an aluminium radiator and mount the shroud to that?

Indeed, I put a bit of effort in and got the system working in my E36.

surely you could get one made for the supra and weld in the hole or use a TT overflow bottle

Why don't you just repair the original expansion tank.
I did mine with some 2 pack epoxy strip that you buy at any auto shop and just twist it together.
It's also good for repairing fuel tanks and radiators.
I did it once and it didn't leak for the next 6 or 8 years before I sold it

You can also buy new top tank , I paid $120 a few years back for mine in Cairns , if the rest of the radiator is ok thats what i would do then all the stock parts fit again.

My radiator is bent from where it was hit, both top and bottom tanks cracked and core isnt straight..
Im ordering a v8 radiator and just going to weld a filler neck to it. Easiest way and i can retain hydro fan setup.
