After doing the starter on my 1UZ about a year ago the idle was slightly erractic at idle once warm.
Once the engine had warmed up at idle in drive the rpm's would fluctuate between 500 and 600 every now and then and it sounded like it had a hot cam with a mild lope.
I assumed that one of the gaskets I had reused was leaking a bit and didn't worry about it too much. It slowly got worse about a few months ago and started stalling ocassionally which was very annoying.
Did some research and it seemed like it could well be the idle control valve, certainly easier than doing all the intake and injector gaskets/seals.
I got the bearings from Saeco in Petone, cost me $40 for both. Neither Repco or BNT stocked them.
I used the writeup on Planet Soarer as the guide and just removed the black section of the IACV.
To do this I had to remove the intake tubing, plug/leads covers, front coil, and the cross over section for the leads between the dizzy's.
Unscrewed the black housing and pulled it away and disassembled it. The bearings were dry but the culript was clearly a dirty and sticking shaft that is supposed to wind in and out.
I gave this a thorough clean fitted new bearings to the magnet component and reassembled it. To get the larger bearing off I clamped the bearing lightly in a vice and used a drift the same size as the inner shaft and gently tapped it out. The smaller bearing was easily tapped out.
After refitting and going for a drive the idle is much better, gone is the loping and erraticness and sometimes stalling.
All up took me about 2 hours from whoa to go including clean up and test drive and $40.
Hey Daniel, old thread i know but ive been having idle issues and a high pitched whistle/scream when cold, stops when temp reaches halfway then the idle does the whole lumpy cam thing. I am guessing it is caused by, and coming from the IACV. It started as soon as i changed intake manifold and had to relocate the IACV So this is my job for tomorrow, already have the bearings, $16 from CBC... Did you end up greasing up the shaft??? Thats my plan at the moment...

Hey Dave, you wouldn't have the part number for the bearings? Also what store are they from? I'm in Brisbane and doing my IACV tomorrow so might as well put new bearings in
