Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone knows of any local crank pulley holder tools that will work on the 1UZ. I found the Schley 64300 but the sellers on both Amazon and Ebay don't ship outside the U.S. and the tool websites I have found don't look overly legit. I have had some suggestions such as locking the flywheel or filling a cylinder with nylon string, I would prefer to use an actual tool meant for the job rather than jerry rigging it.

david, i made an adaptor from a steel plate. (~400mm x 120mm) Drilled a large hole to take the crank shaft and also 2 smaller ones at one end which lined up with holes in the harmonic balancer so the adaptor could be attached. The adaptor is of sufficient length so that the end of it sits on the chassis rail on the RHS. I welded a socket to a length of angle iron and undoing the bolt was easy. I have used this on a number of cars and it works perfectly.
On locking the flywheel, you can remove a small "inspection plate" at the bottom of the fly wheel and use a screw driver in the teeth to hold it. My experience has been the most important part is having plenty of leverage on the bolt as it is extremely tight.

i tried that method and it did not loosen the bolt. The engine nearly jumps out of the mounts, i would not do it again
if you cannot get an adaptor (see my earlier post) do this

John , do not do the starter thing , it rips the passenger side mount, go to your friendly garage let them put the rattler gun on it then just pinch it up to drive home.

Ali is right , the one at work is 750Nm and takes just one jab of trigger to undo Soarers crank bolts. My super cheap one at home would not move my own Soarer bolt

Find a Correct size piece of metal to jam into the inspection plate, something long enough so it can rest on a chassis point somewhere so it does not just slip off.

Yeah, you can get a 400nm pneumatic impact wrench that will run at 90psi/4cfm (which is what your average home compressor will do) for under $150 - it'll undo most things on a car... eg...
