Its funny that if you look up the toyota soarer through the mechanics manuals and toyota etc it generally has around 460CCA as the requirement - although here the common number to adequately supply power is 700CCA.

When the last battery died in the Soarer (old NRMA one) I went into the local BatteryWorld and asked for a N70ZZL. Guy behind the counter said there were two options - a Century, and this other heavy-duty one that had a deeper cycle or something which would be good if I was running a fridge, winch or other extra 12V features without the engine on.
I told him I didn't own a 4WD...
There was a blank stare on his face for about 5 seconds, then "ahh, you must have a Lexus then"

I have a 330 cca calcium in my 31 but it doesn't have air bags so no pump to drive. It was in the car when I got it and has never given me any trouble in over 2 years, don't know how old it is. This may be why I have to have 2 goes at starting when it is cold
But just came to the end of my ACDelco big battery with 730 cca and 160 hour reserve on my 32. Don't know how old this is but it died. Car just cut out and dash said "Charge". When I swapped my other car battery into it, it did some strange things: It died after about a kilo and came up charge but the battery was fine. It had plenty of guts in it , so I waited a minute and kicked it over and off it went again but it kept dieing for a moment for the next 5 kilomenters on my way to a mates place. when I left his place it gave me no more troubles? Go figure.
I wandered if there were some capacitors in the system that had become completely depleted and took a while to get their charge back??

I went to Red Top when i first brough my car.... great battery, havent had any issues. i changed because the car would be sitting in the garage for long periods without being driven. i just have a trickle charge going through it all the time when not in use...

Hey, I have found that the high cca of my red top gives me start first time, before it took 2 goes. This is probably why my 31 takes 2 hits to start, with the extra zapp it would kick over straight away. Good to have the extra hit with the Optima red top.
