Hi I recently bought a 1994 Lexus Soarer V8 in Brisbane, drove it back to Townsville, and about half way the motor overheated, pulled off and got it towed back. I just had a guy that looked over the motor and it looks like blown head gaskets, can you please advise the better option, fixing the existing motor or replacing - Thanks

i would look to replace the engine.

look in the for sale posts, there are a few available.

to overheat i would guess you had a water leak?

I would make sure that was located and fixed before replacing /fixing the engine.

Yeah it looks like the water reservoir was leaking; I am looking at replacing that as well as getting the radiator flushed out.

before proceeding further, i would get a 2nd opinion on the blown head gaskets. ( maybe a compression test?)

You normally get error massages and beeps before the engine actually "cooks"

Completely agree on getting a second opinion. Same thing happened to me; bought a car from Merimbula and on the way back to Canberra, the water pump let go spewing coolant all over the road. A red error message and a beep came up on the dash. Stopped the car and topped up the coolant.

Drove the car about 50ks more with continuous coolant top ups. But I eventually had to tow the car back.

Neil fixed it up for me, gaskets were fine though.

Thanks for that, I will definitely get another opinion. If blown head gaskets are the case, do you guys know what the approx. price is for a rebuild?
