hey guys,

did a search and scanned through the threads, looking in the 3 other threads bout turbo v8's an didn get my answer, hence starting this thread...

i have a t04z mounted on the front of the motor where the radiator fan hydraulic pump used to be, its an alloy spider looking mount around the timing belt..

i wanna know, if i bolt the t4 flange on a mounting plate (10mm thick plate) to support the turbo instead of relying on the exhaust pipes soley, will the heat from the turbo end up melting that alloy?? i will have heat shielding every effin' where of course. pics to follow

Thanks for the prompt reply Ali :-) ,
the zorst will be heat wrapped where it goes near the belt.. and the wires for sensors and what not will be shielded as well, im not overly worried bout the radiator hose as they're fairly good with heat, so the turbo cozy should do alright there, im more looking at heat transfer through my bracket into the alloy bracket around the timing belt..

i would like to hear peoples theory's on what heat transfer effects i might come across..

In my opinion, put the battery in the back and the turbo where the battery is

Looks like it would be a tight squeeze where the battery is also.

Great project Mathew hope you sort it all out!

yes i originally wanted to put it where the battery is, but i really need to mount the turbo with a bracket to the motor because of the manifold type, they wont support the weight and temp changes without cracking.

ill revise and sink a few JD's over my pondering and come back with another option later.. thanks guys

All that exhaust heat will kill the belts and wiring on the front of the engine that close .

Single turbo slightly to one side of engine will work well . Pipes don't need to be equal length . Just run some log style manifolds , or turn the factory ones upside down and swap sides .

Will be fine . Just fab a bracket to mount where the original bracket tray is if needed . But most won't break , you'd be surprised .

But any bracket would work .

ermm, did i forget to mention that 'I' made them.. from standard log manifolds welded to bits of pre bought bends and straights haha.. it will definately need to be braced hehe

depends on the thickness of steel + quality of welds. Stock manifolds are heavy cast pieces so they will hold the turbo quite well

im not a big fan of remote mounted turbos.. mind you ive never had anything to do with them.. but they just dont get me hard...

popping the hood and seeing a dirty big snail jumping out and slapping you in the face, floats my boat nicely..
