Hi Guys,
Im new so please be nice, iv never even put anything on a forum before.
My timing belt broke due to the water pump seizing up.
Iv had the car for about 7-8 years and i was doing about 60kph around 2000RPM (roughly) when the timing belt broke. (No back firing) I understand these are a clearance motor up to 1996 i think but you get the odd person telling you different which makes it confusing.
Iv been going to this mechanic for years and im happy with his work but he has never replaced a timing belt on one of these 1UZ's before and hes having issues.
I went there today and the new timing belt and water pump ect are on the car but it runs really bad. I was told 4 cylinders are not even firing and 1 cylinder has half the amount of compression of what it should. (about 80, from what i know it should be up at 175 something)
I think he has not set up the timing belt/cams correctly. I just want to know what you soarer experts think?

The car didnt get hot at all around the time when the belt broke. A few months before i had the trans oil bay in the radiator split and oil was in the radiator which made the car get a little hotter but never overheated. I fixed that issue quickly.

double check the timing is correct. with the engine at TDC, if you remove the disti covers, the rotors should be pointing to marks on the disti housing.
also check you are getting spark out of both coils.

I've also seen rotor buttons put 180degrees out. I can't remember but I think the passenger side faces opposite to drivers side. I can't find my timing guide I followed. I'll try and dig it up.

Although rotor buttons don't account for compression. Id be looking at timing again. If its only firing on 4? I'd look to see if all plugs are connected as well. Considering it was running I can't imagine a coil suddenly dieing but they can do weird stuff.
