Hi all, my V8 Limited has been running rough and has been diagnosed with faults with main ECU.
Any suggestions where to have it rebuilt and approx. cost or where I could source one in better condition than my original. It is my daily driver so it needs to be close to Sydney, thanks Greg
If your car is drivable see if you can get down to Niall @ Bond Auto Tech in Botany. I was able to use his test ECU to pinpoint the problem I was having.

Hi, i also have ECU issues responsible for my erratic idle on my `91 LTD i think, my question to you guys is, my ECU has number 29 on it and i see that this number runs in sequence with model year , so `92 30, `93 31 etc up to what year ECU is suitable for my car or must i stick to original year model ? Thanks to anybody that can help.

Search is your friend, heaps of threads on replacing caps in the ecu, don't bother with a replacement if it second hand, just about all the caps are gone these days unless previously replaced.
How are you sure it is the ecu ? Could also be, ISCV, or TPS amongst others

Brett, I've had it to a soarer specialist who diagnosed the problem, he put his test ECU on the car.
So I either need to pick up one that has been done or get mine done however it is my daily driver and would be without car for a week, unless there is someone in Sydney who can do it and not charge me an arm and leg to do it
I'm not that keen to by an old one and have it done as there could be other issues with it, greg

Thanks to you all for your advise, firstly this idle problem has been investigated so we are a way down the track with it, the caps have been replaced in the ECU but there was some board damage as a result of the bleed , after this repair fault went away and was perfect for 2 weeks, idle control valve bearings lubed and unit looks like new inside, so can anybody help me with an answer to the original question about ECU suitability from later cars, Thanks, Guys.

Evan , thanks for your reply , the availability of ECU`s in America for SC400`s is what provoked the original question, but most are from newer cars than mine and would like to nail down they`re suitability before committing to one. Anybody ?

Engine performance is fine, a few hundered revs higher rev limiter, and no speed limiter. The main problem is that it won't control the auto trans correctly, I'm pretty sure the US SC400 uses the TT transmission with one more shift solenoid.
I have used a US spec ECU in my UZZ31 for a few hundered k's and it threw transmission error codes, however if you are running a manual trans it shouldn't be a problem. It was e few years ago now and I ended up sending the ECU to Damian Ware for him to have a play with it.

Thanks to all who have responded, Dave, am aware the much later cars had a different wiring socket so that rules those out, Paul, look forward to the update regards Dan`s car.

Roger, confirming what Evan said above, so long as the ECU is a 40 40 40 pin, I think you will be fine with any 1UZ ECU up to about 97 when I think VVTI was introduced in the 1UZ.

The US got 1UZ-vvti with the 5 speed auto in 98, that ecu would never work with ours, though it would of been good if the Japs had continued the V8 in the Soarer.
