As the title says.
I just buaght a 94 sc400 v8.
I was having an issue with the car stalling when i come to a stop and found the alternator was stuffed so fitted a new one and rebuilt the steering pump at the same time. thinking that may be the stalling problem.
Still had the problem. found the maf sensor was stuffed so fitted a new one and all new leads coils plugs rotor caps and rotors.
Started getting major idle surging and run very rough.
I had a sealed IACV idle valve that was stiff so fitted a pre 94 one that i rebuilt. The idle is more stable now but still lumpy chugging and its running more rough and seems to keep getting worse.
I cant drive the car as its so chuggy and making the trans clunk around gears it runs rough like a mower i can smell fuel it blows black smoke and when i press the throttle it bogs out and almost stalls. if i unplug the maf it will not bog down but it still runs like a mower.
i have replaced the caps in my ecu and i am waiting on a new rebuilt ecu in the mail from a lexus specialist. also waiting on new o2 sensors.
Swapped igniters around reset ecu ect.
Can anyone suggest what the problem may be if it not the ecu or 02 sensors? I checked the pump ecu byepassing it and no luck.

Checked both coils. replaced one for now. and swapped the other around with no luck. i hope its the ecu as i have run out of ideas. cars only done 152.000 really hate to think its a total loss.

Its symtoms of the ecu. When you say you did the caps did you check the board over for continous tracks? And were any caps leaking? from your symptoms I could guess 2 were and they probly damaged the tracks.
Just out of interest who's the Lexus specialist and how much was the ecu. I need some for My change over pile.
John on passenger side strut tower under a black plastic cover are the ignighters. 2 of the same plug but 1 has an extra wire for tacho.

mine had no cover over it. but yeah where dan said.
Two were leaking one had eaten into a track but it looked like it had only takn the vanish off and the track looked like it might still work but guess not.
This guys in the us he fixes all problems with the ecu and gives lifetime warranty. i spent $300 odd without changeover. ill post my old one back when i get the new one and ill get $100 back.

Sorted the rough idle. it turns out stupid me while trying to fix the idle hunting i put one lead on a bit loose. BUT the car is still idle hunting when the air flow sensor is plugged in but runs ok and rich when its un plugged. i have fitted a reco iacv had the computer reco and had an auto elec check eveything. he tells me the new air flow sensor i brought could be fualty or not built to the right specs as it is an aftermarket one. could this be the case. i cant find a spare oem air flow sensor to test.?

the ecu who refurbished it? you said only 1 new solder mark if this is the case probably your ecu still has problems due to them only doing 1. all the capacitors need doing. i have fixed other peoples work because of this exact reason.
in regards to afm will run rich due to changing the tune in ecu. if your having problems with afm pluged in either ecu or afm. no one around you has a afm you could borrow to check? if not i can send one of my spares down to test.

So i contacted the place i got the new maf from and told them everything is pointing to the new maf sensor and guess what! THEY ADMITTED THEY HAVE HAD A FUALTY BATCH OF MAFS WITH THE PARAMITERS SET WRONG!!!! GRRRRRRRR!!!!! so looks like that is the problem. they are not gonna have the new batch for another 3 weeks so i have ordered a second hand one online that claims to be tested and working. see how it go.
