I Have recently just replace the starter motor on my mates v8 soarer that he recently purchased. I have since finished doing the job and I am now finding it hard to get it started. The engine turns over just fine and gets very close to starting with a cough and a splutter but just doesn't quiet get there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a fuel issue. Any loose pipes??

go to the diagnostics plug and short between FP(fuel pump) and B+ (12v) this puts 12 v directly to the fuel pump , bypassing the ECU.

do you have a diagram to do the the ecu bypass?

there aren't any loose pipes, I have gone over the engine and put a spanner on all the fuel lines and as i was at it i got rid of the spring clamps and replaced them with proper clamps
