Hello there Forum Members,
So here is the issue, it started off with some missing at slight throttle, it was there for a month or two, after this the car began to run on what seemed like 4 cyl any how it was very rough.
Now the car wont start at all ( although at One time randomly it started and ran fine until resuming its state of not starting at all).
The car turns over and fires for about 2 seconds, i can flat line it and get some sound for about the same amount of time before it dies out ( 1 or 2 seconds )

- i've changed the coils/ignitors
- Recapped the ecu
- pulled the AFM with no change

Any help/Info would be much appreciated, my next couple of steps will be pulling the crank angle sensor to see if that makes a difference.

I have some leads and spark plugs that are on the way which will be changed over to eliminate these as a factor although I'm thinking it might be a different problem.

Check the fuel ecu, you can test this by bridging B and FP in the diagnostics port under the bonnet.

If it runs bridged, the ecu is no good, if not probably somewhere else but this is a free and easy test to rule it out.

Thanks Jason, I Did This but still to no avail ...
Its a good one because I've had that problem before where the fuel pump ecu had gone

Also get someone to check there is fuel pressure in the line.

There is a small screw ontop of the connection to the fuel rail on the drivers side. This should rise and stay up while cranking/running.

Have you run the electronic diagnostics checks?

Thats a really good idea' i'll do that, trying to source another ecu to swap in to totally rule out that possibility

Got Her Running again, Turned out to be the water temperature sensor having a bad connection or gone bad.
Still running Rough, seems to be clicking coming for the Left Hand Distributor.

P.S Working with a torch in the dark is no fun =/
But at least she is not idling although a little rough, at time it ran great for about 10 seconds at very rare and random intervals, am hoping to replace the distributor cap to see what happens.

i changed the water temp sensor and again nothing same problem.

It Does start and run randomly works fine and then back to the same turn over for a second and cut out.

crazy crazy crazy.

I'm just about to change the ecu around with another to see if that's the problem, will post back soon

When you desoldered the old cap you probably pulled out a small track as I've found this on 2 diy ecus lately. Under the leaking cap it is very hard to remove without damaging it and 1uz ecus are the worst in doing this
