In Park and Neutral the car idles very rough and the rpm needle loops/bounces from 1500-2000 continuously nonstop. As the needle bounces the car revs responds to it. In drive the car idles at 1100 and if I let off the brakes the car accelerates by itself till about 25 mph. At a stop light or sign I can feel the car grabbing when breaking, it jerks and it is really scary driving this car because of the acceleration problem.

I cleaned the iacv valve, and replaced my maf with a new used one. I unplugged the Maf to see what would happen and when I did the car would bog and sound like it's about to die but the looping/bouncing went away. Also when I had my intake air hose disconnected I decided to turn the car on to see how it would run, and in park and neutral the idle was fine with no looping. but with the intake air hose connected the idle would loop and bounce. any help please???

Probably your idle control valve is playing up, try another. It may have a failed motor.

I think sometimes broken or missing vacuum lines can cause these sorts of issues, usually you would here a sucking sound if that was the case..

Otherwise it could be an ECU issue...

See what some others have to say first.

Most likely the IACV. When my IACV harness was unplugged, it would constantly rev up by 500rpm then decrease by 500rpm every second.

Serious rev hunting occurs when the TPS is in IDL mode, and the revs get above a set point (usually around 1500rpm).
When the revs get to this set point it will cut fuel, and then kick back in when it comes under 1000rpm.

This happens when the ISCV is faulty (ie, dies while open), or when the throttle plate/butterfly is wedged open and the TPS is set incorrectly (or has failed)

http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?S=FI&P=101

This is an extract from the 7MGTE manual, but its pretty much the same.

Make sure the throttle plate is 100% closed, and do the checks revolving around IDL-E2

No Peter, the little rubber grommet on it came loose and was getting stuck in the throttle assembly, jamming it open at around 1900 - 2000. If it jammed open at the lights I'd blip the throttle a few times to get it out of there, but the drawback there is that little turds in Commonwhores thought I wanted to drag!

The IDL output basically stands for "Idle", It is activated (Or grounded maybe I'm guessing) when the throttle plate is closed, when the car is idling.

Mine was doing this recently and it was the main throttle cable. I removed it and took it to a place (in Perth named FlexiDrive) who rebuild / rewire cables. All done for $38 including new cable, clean of old jacket, reconnecting the end lugs.

Sounds like the IACV, I pulled it out, cleaned it, didn't help. I took it out again, opened it up, the bearings inside were stuck. So I spun them by hand, cleaned them and hit then with some lube..... All good now..... Cars even using less fuel and has more bottom end grunt.

I just had the same problem, turned out to be the AFM. Easy to check to, just disconnect it and if thats the problem it should stop surging.

I think this rev issue is due to a vac leak in the power steering system.

I am having same issues now - and have narrowed it down.

Losing a small amount of fluid monthly.
Idle air up valve on the power steering is causing a vac leak.

the rev thing is due to a vac leak - very similar to a bad IACV.

Anyone with this issue, check the power steering system for leaks.

P.s. If it's not the power steering system, it could be a vac leak elsewhere. (or the iacv.)

You know what Rob? There are plenty of quite knowledgeable people who post on this forum. They are generally willing to help others with some technical know how, or share a lesson learnt/past experience. In fact I know a lot of them enjoy it, even continuing to monitor the forum(s) long after they have sold up and moved on from Soarers.

When you post the same question over and over again it is effectively like nagging. No one likes to be constantly nagged. Generally this annoys people and they are less inclined to take time out of their days to help. I for one see your name pop up on 90% of new posts with the same lead in words and simply close the browser. I can't be bothered.

My advice is to consider where your question is best posed and post it in that thread. Once. By all means contribute where you have something to share, and there are several areas of the forums where it is acceptable to post for the sake of it.

In addition the forum has rules. We don't use rubbish like "k thx" here.

I have probably posted this in the wrong area, but I chose one of your many thread revivals/posts and replied.
