Hi all, my V8 just started running rough, very low power.
In only about 1km driving home the catalytic converters are both red hot! (I noticed when I put the car into a dark garage).
Local mechanic cannot diagnose as cannot read codes. He thinks it is in a limp home mode, but that was before I discovered overheating cats.
Initially there was one or two warnings in japanese cycling through “system check” and “check complete” but now only normal start up. Apart from ECU (caps done a few years ago),
Any ideas?
Thanks, Tom

Here you will find the codes and how to read them, this will point in the direction you need.

Excess fuel is burning in the cats, they melt and block and performance dies too.

You need new cats but also to fix the fuel issue first so you don't kill the new cats as well.

Good luck!

Thanks, makes sense, I will pull the ECU out and have a look, I did get them done a few years ago but it seems that is the first place to look for issues.

Thanks everyone.
New coils from Ebay and running OK.
Not sure how the cats will be but seems to drive well.

Friendly note:
Check your ECU ASAP!

If a driver fails, it can constantly ruin your coils. Every single Soarer ECU is dying right now, there are no exceptions.

Mine just died last week after replacing a coil.
3 capacitors burst, and ate through the motherboard.
