Ah, Bosch parts. Fair enough.
I no longer fell like I've been ripped off.
I have just come inside after checking a few more bits n pieces - checking ecu connections etc.
My leads are only 6 months old, plugs are good as are the parts I replaced in the above post.
Anyone got a spare coil pack I can use to help diagnose the miss?
Not happy Jan...

Ok Toyota parts are
$50 for Dizzy
$35 for Rotor Button.

That's from Castle Hill (may not be exact but close enough) Apparently Bosch make them for Toyota anyways.

Leads were like 480 RRP and $370 being on Soarer Central :-)

I'll have the bottom coil pack spare mid next week. When i get my parts and replace them.

What does the rpm do when it misses?? Drop or Pick up??

I'll be skating to and from work, But staying at a mates costs me $4.90 on the bus each way and it's only 15km's to home. F--ken Raught.

The RPM drops when it misses.
But the funny thing is, if I give it a boot full, it will miss for 3 or 4 seconds and then once the revs are up, will take off without any probs through to red line.
Sometimes it's real bad, others not so.
Only very occasionally will it miss when idling in gear.
It's all very strange.

Fuel pump ecu??

Neil has leads for around the 180 mark. Dizzy caps and rotors are bosch, from any parts store.

Dosen't sound like FP/ECU..........possibly crappy gas, and/or stuffed fuel filter.

NOTE: Wouldn't be the 1st. time gas stations have had a crap fill up

I've seen engine ECUs do that

Does it run really rich before it comes good?

The car seems to hesitate and feels like it's running on a few less cylinders.
When it does do it, it's definitely not just 1 cylinder not firing.
The fuel filter should have been replaced when I had the car complianced. I'll stick my head under later to confirm.
I'm also on my 2nd tank of fuel since the miss started.
Mark N, can I hit you up to borrow your spare coil pack once you fit the new ones??
Failing that, anyone with a spare ECU I can try?

As Mark Paddick says.............a lot of early ECU's are suffering from leaking capacitors, and other crap, so this could be a NEW possibility to factor into diagnostics, instead of the "Usual" bogys.

I pulled the ECU out this afternoon.
Checked both circuit boards. Nothing obvious in terms of leaking caps or dry joints etc.
but that doesn't mean much.
At least I can still drive the damn thing.

At this point in time with the cost of leads I couldn't care it's more or less who had them close enough for me to get my hands on monday.

I'm SKATING to work FFS!! Takes me bout 30mins and it's all hills and No wonder the soarer struggled going up the bloody hills when only on 4 cylinders

Failing it's not the coil pack, leads etc....
What's a computer worth? And is it going to be cheaper to put in an aftermarket one??

Going price for 2nd hand computer is $250. So far I have fixed all but one of the faulty ones I've seen. Aftermarket will be a pain with the auto. You'll need a working stock one to control auto.

Cool thanks Mark.
I'm hoping that the re-lay of the engine electrical system is going to fix this up.

Actually this could be a problem when in a previous post that the car would stall when started with the key, but when started remotely was fine?

Do you think that the car was starting and blowing out what little spark was there as the car starts with a bit more rpm with the key then remote.

It sounds like there is definitely a problem with the remote start wiring and/or IGN switch. See how it goes with that sorted.

Here's an ECU;

That's ok mark I'll let you know.

And Luke I'm hoping parts left Sydney on Friday so I should have them on Monday or Tuesday at the latest I hope.

What coil pack do you think it is? Cuz my "top" one is the one that's playing up and hte side one appears to be fine. But i'm unsure if the side one and top one are interchangable???

The easiest way to find out Luke is disconnect one of the coil packs and if doesn't make a change to the way the car is running then there's a good chance that is the faulty coil pack.

We unplugged my top coil pack and ignition lead and the engine didn't change AT ALL. Did the same to the other side and it was firing on 3 cylinders.

Should have parts today. Well I hope so. And we'll be putting them in tonight.

Hopefully the parts will get you running again.
I'm picking up a set of leads this afternoon.
The leads were supposedly replaced when I bought the car 7 months ago - they look OK and tested out OK with a meter but at least that way they are a known quantity.

Yeah mine is the same "replaced" before I brought the car (I even have an invoice) but the plugs were FARKED at least 3mm gap.
I got new leads at Autobarn waiting on rotor buttons and dizzy caps. I got my coil packs in my hot little hand now.
Just need to hurry up and wait for 5pm so I can go home and install them.

OK changed the spark plugs, leads, coil packs, dizzy cap and rotor buttons. Now it kicked over but a lead got caught (well almost did) so i stopped it and then went to start again and it's just not kicking over. There's spark there and lots of fuel.

PLEASE HELP!!

Gees mate, sounds like your having a bad run.
I can sympathise.
I replaced my leads tonight and guess what...
It still has a miss
Iv'e got it booked in with the local mechanic this Friday
He reckons it could be a bad injector. I have not heard or read of anyone with such a problem with their V8 Soarer.
Anyhow, he has all the diagnostic equipment so I will soon find out.
I disconnected the leads one at a time and found that it did have an even bigger miss except when I
unplugged cylinder 3.
