Well after a long and involved path to find a resolution to tuning a V8 Soarer with the ability to adjust the mixtures and timing via a laptop I can finally report that it has been successfully completed, 12 degrees of advance and 12 degrees of retard are available at 64 mapping points, with fuel adjustments of better than 60%lean or rich from ECU STD output.. Also the lambda sensor reports lean and rich fuel in the same window to assist tuning, There are 3 switchable outputs to control things such as Water injection/NOS/Change lights etc Also a 64 map point analog output for controlling up to 6 extra injectors for NOS and Fuel etc.. The wiring is simple and can be accomplished in less than 1 hour. The result on my UZZ32 Soarer are outstanding all the way through to 7400rpm where it starts to run out of steam. There are also 2 maps I have 1 set for poor fuel (which we all seem to get from time to time) and the other for a good load.. I will be fitting the second SMT6 I have up to my stock UZZ32 in the next few weeks to see what improvements I can get to a stock car and I will report back my findings, I have produced a PDF with illustrations of the wiring and diagrams to suit if anyone would like a copy please ask.. I also have the base maps and global settings for SMT6 to ensure a 1 touch turn of the key first time start..

Now to the important bit..
I need some help, the wiring diagrams I have for the 1UZFE engine ECU have a number of discrepancies from the actual wiring I have in the car, wrong colours, wrong pin locations etc.. To finalize the wiring diagrams and to ensure this mod is simple I need a std ECU pin out (not the American car)if anyone can help that would be great..
Otherwise the pin colours and locations for the OXYGEN Sensor, Throttle position sensor, neither of these wires do I currently use on my car but having them will make the installation quicker and easier for Non Supercharged cars..

All the best and happy soaring PeterT

Great news Peter! This shows the location for the TPS which I used when fitting my MAP-ECU but don't have locations for the O2 sensors. Neil probably does though.

Off topic Sorry.

Damien your & my car are very similar in terms mech mods. I am keen to know what rwkw you've makin. Do you have a figure? As mine is 174.6rwkw
I was recently told that I should be pretty pissed off with that & able to go much better. So now I'm wondering about the tuner (C&J MotorSports) in Brisvagas.

At last count I was getting 165rwkw with no airflow meter running a MAP-ECU but I haven't been able to tune the ignition yet. What piggyback/ECU are you using? Your figure sounds OK to me as it's similar to what some of the guys at Lextreme get with standalone ECU's, extractors etc. Don't quote me on this but I think Andrew Ferres got about 180rwkw with a dual throttle body intake so you're not off the mark.

And does the SMT-6 change the rev limit, or have you got another box to do that??

The SMT6 is a unit made by Perfect Power. They also make the IFT chip which some of the TT guys use. I think they are a local bunch form memory.

Great news Peter. I was under the impression that two of these were needed to alter timing. IS this the case? Sorry i am of no use to you with the wiring.

They're from South Africa. Can the IFT be used on V8's?

The IFT is basically a fuel trimmer. It removes boost cut and speed cut on the tt's. So there would be some advantages to fitting them. Fuel trimming on a stock V8 has not shown any great results by itself.

Fuel trimming on a 1UZ as done by UAS and as posted by them on this site, using an SAFC gave 22RWK.

Pretty cheap horsepower (for a V8)

My bad, all the previous threads on s-afc tuning had not had gains worth the investment.

Most of this is over my head, but I'm putting in an in-car computer, and was looking for some way to get control/readout of the fuel mix and anything else I can to the comp! This sounds somewhere along the lines of what I'm after!! The aim is to get a couple of settings on the comp for different conditions/moods
Also to be able to monitor the mechanical of the car from the comp. Has anyone else here succeeded in doing this??

Sorry mate - I got that around the wrong way. Wasn't thinking last night. If you tell the ECU that MORE air is going in then the timing advances a little. The amount of air going in is the main load indicator so roughly speaking more air = more timing advance.

Previously I had also heard the SAFC didn't make much difference.

Hi Guys

I have used a mines ECU which raises the RPM limit and removes the speed cut, the SMT6 is only for the purpose of tuning the vehicle, both timing and fuel on the one unit, prior to the latest round of changes I was using 2 SMT6 units 1 for fuel and 1 for timing this worked but was cumbersome and expensive.. As for cost, an SMT6 is approx 700.00, fitting could be undertaken by anyone who can splice wires and solder.. The main issue for me when I was trying to find a solution is that I wanted the ability to change the tune myself..or choose who I use to tune the car, I have not seen another system yet that allows this to happen with a V8 soarer.. The car it is fitted to recently achieved 215RWK on a Dyno Dynamics Dyno whilst being tuned on a 36 degree day..

That's pretty good value at $700! I need a way to alter timing but didn't want to use a unichip as I want something laptop programmable. Might be the answer.

How much boost were you running to get that figure? I presume that's on your blown V8?

Ken, what you want to do is pretty expensive for something that looks good. For getting a readout of the mixtures on a computer you'd need a wideband 02 meter (I bought one from
www.wbo2.com) and the cheapest is about $500 but that's a good price for what it is. To get anything else showing on the PC you'd really need a programmable ECU with Windows software.

Here's my setup - MAP-ECU for the fuel computer and a 2EO wideband meter which plugs into the MAP-ECU for logging on the laptop.

Hi Damien
That's right the blown V8 and I am running 5lb at the moment as the belt is slipping at anything over 3000rpm, It should run to about 7 lbs once we have eliminated the slip..

there are mistakes relating to the Oxy Sensor
Neil has sent me through the schematic's (Ta Neil :-) ) and I will make the changes and the diagram will be available in HQ PDF.

Very Interesting Peter. Good to see it only needs one SMT6 to run it.
Did you buy this from Errol? or another source?

The SMT6 sounds great Peter, and seems easy to fit too. Does it retain the AFM or, as your diagram suggests, does it use a MAP sensor instead? I didn't think it was possible for a piggyback to do away with the AFM?

Can you confirm the price is $700? And can one download base maps from Perfect Power or can we get them from you?
