So you are suggesting that people from the UK have some sort of disability that inhibits their ability to type normally? If I was from the UK, I might find that offensive.

Unplug the Air Flow Meter and the car will run a tad better.( At least to get you around ) DO NOT drive it hard.. ECU will default to static timing and alieviate the prob a little.. This will do till you find another coil. I DO NOT advise to continually drive like this..

thanks for the sensible answer i have a new coil ordered and have managed to get a lift to and from work today so the car can sit where it is until i get the coil. the recovery man thinks i may need new plugs if i drove it 1 mile with no sparks??or will it dry itself of overnight enough to start? many thanks.

Hell Neil. Just once I'd like to see a problem get the better of you.

Welcome mate and good luck with the car, but that's crap to read. Unless of course your keyboard is made by Nokia then we'll cut some slack. Otherwise it might be cut some slackarse .

Stewart, I have just recovered from the same problem (and missed Neil's workshop christening because of it). My top coil pack suddenly died without warning and it had exactly the same symptoms as yours (especially the overheated cats).
When I replaced the coil pack the car started immediately and ran as if there was nothing ever wrong with it. I didn't drive mine far, but I would suggest your plugs may well be fine as mine were no problem once the coil pack was replaced.
Neil suggested replacing both packs though (they are the same age after all) and I will be replacing the other one this week.
