Can the 1uz run without the power steering pump? If so what belt would I use and how would it be configured?

Why would you want to? The steering will be VERY heavy, plus it's illegal I believe. Though I notice you are trying to fit it to a Supra which might be a bit different.

The front belt (unless the engine is from a UZZ32 which gas 2 belts) drives the P/S pump as well as the A/C and alternator.

Whoever is the architect of your engine swap should be able to work things like this out for you.

This can be done, i know of a 1uz that was put in an old holden ute, as the ute didnt have PS the internals were removed from the 1uz pump and the ports blocked up so in effect it was just freewheeling on the belt. Its not hard to do.

I ran the pump dry for ages on the drag engine, didn't seem to hurt it either, as I installed it on a customers car after I had removed it ! I didn't even plug the holes, just drained it.

Matt,
Why not do a Rack Conversion and run the pump !

the 260z which we put the 1jz has no power steering rack so we just gutted the internals of the power steering pump and plumbed it into itself.

Unless its fouling on something I'd suggest to leave it in and gut it like ours. Plumb it into itself and that way it won't break down.

wat about removing the pump all together and running a smaller belt... would it be possible to route the belt straight to the tensioner from the top idler... and then straight from the alt back to the crank?? looking at pics.. depending which way the tensioner operates, You could route it over the top or under it straight through from top idler to alt.....
