When I take a tight left hand turn or I do a tight U turn, I can hear a loud bang noise coming from the rear left wheel ... and also a sort of shattering from the rear of the car.

I don't have much knowledge on this, but I would belive its either a wheel bearing or the differential.

Cant hear any noises on straight road driving .. yet.

Anyone know more...

Have a look where the uni joint couples to the diff. (There are 8x10mm Allen bolts that bolt it together with a rubber coupler in between)I recently had a problem like this (See the tread "SOS wobbly shuddering car at low revs" in suspension)& discovered every through bolt (other than two that were hanging untreaded) had dropped out

Should have mentioned I posted photos in that same thread as well so it will be easy to see what the problem was.
