Ok guys and Gals, Im still having problems with me soarer. If you all remember it was stalling and was told by the auto elec that it was my immobiliser which has since been changed. Ive still got the same problem, car tries to turn over b ut nothing. If i hook up to another battery and with a little extra power i can jump start it. I can drive it around but once turned off it might start once more then nothing. Things i have eliminated: It is not the ECU fuel. It is not the Fuel Pump. It is not a bad earth. It is not the alternator. It is not the starter motor. It is not the immobiliser because i rang the guy to come out and have it disconnected. It is not the battery, i had the one in the car checked it is fine but i then went out and brought a new battery anyway still then same so my son has now got a new battery which he needed for his soarer. Ive got the cruise sunday here in perth and am hoping that it is up and running without needing a jump start. Ive polished it all ready. Im what else could it be? Liz Perth WA

I though about the fuel filter but once the car starts with a little jump start if it will not start itself , the car runs well. So that is why i have'nt changed the fuel filter. Liz

Will it always start when its cold or once you get to the second or third starting that's it?

It does not like the cold in the mornings. But even during the day the motor will turn but not start. Then later we could go out side and it will start. Take it on a long drive, when we get back it might start three times in a row but then again it might not start at all. Liz

When it wont start have you check for spark or removed the spark plugs to if they are wet with fuel OR damaged in any way. What was the title of your last series of question so i can read though it.I might get an idea. Pete

I have'nt checked the spark plugs yet, will do that in the morning. I was having problems with the car stalling while driving. When i pulled over i waited a while and it started again. I by passed the ecu fuel for one day then It kept doing this for some time until my other half took it down the shop and it stopped altogether. I done a diagnostic check and every thing seemed fine. I then got a Auto elec guy to come out and he told me it was the immobiliser. The auto elec guy bypassed the immobiliser and put in a fuse and it ran fine. I then booked it in straight away for a new immobiliser and alarm, once that was put it in ran one week and then the same problem stalling then not starting. Then i started to eliminate what would have caused the problem. So here i am with a soaring soarer that my other half is ready to Liz Perth WA

The running fine then just cutting out then just starting up. Would lead me to one of the coils or ignition modules ,more so the modules than the coils. Very strange problem you have there Liz, its inconsistency definitely spells electrical. It is very difficult to give advice on how to fix a car without being able to see it or see what its doing. Don't get worried because you will get to the bottom of this.

One of the coils is just next to the a/c pump(lower passenger hand side of the motor) the other is up top to the drivers side of the water return. I don't have a pic for you but the ignition modules are up next to the passenger side suspension strutt.(I think they are referred to as igniters) and i have no idea on how to test them. If your son has a V8 too try swap them over to see what happens.

What about Air Flow Meter? I remember when my dads AFM died on his RB20T in his Skyline it played up like a Crank angle sensor! WOuld start and drive then Stall, wouldnt start, the run for 5 mins, then stop, then run for 2 days then stop, not start. Has anyone removed your AFM recently and maybe damaged it? They are sensative things, and if damaged, some cars wont run without them. Just something else to check i guess. ( correct me if im wrong though peoples,hehe)

Hi Daniel, I havent taken anything out except the immobiliser but i was already having the problem when i took it out. So im just eliminating things at this stage before i take it to anyone else costing me more money only for them to tell me its something else or they dont know what it is. Its already cost me $600 onl,y to have the same problem. Lucky i have my son's car to eliminate things. thanks Anyway. liz Perth WA

Have you had someone check you Fuel Pressure Regulator. If this is cracked can cause the car to starve for fuel (especially if it warms up), then when you let it sit for a few seconds (it cools back down reducing the crack) and allows you to re-start. Just another thing to check before you buy any parts.

Elizabeth, check your crank angle sensor and wiring, drive belt can sometimes rub on the wiring.

OK, ive swaped the ignitor over from my sons car and it does the same thing. Ive located the coils - the ignition coil and the other one. how do you get the ignition coil of as i will start with that one first. Liz Perth WA

The car sounds like it is not getting the spark to start, once you hook up the jumper leads and give it that little extra is turns over. When i done a diagnostic check the ecu was fine. Is the crank angle sensor the one near the front bumper on the passenger side below the light? Liz Perth WA}

Elizabeth, if the ECU itself goes faulty, it might not see it's own faults. Might be worth swapping just to prove it either way. Under the passengers carpet in the footwell.

Lift plastic trims on door sill. Unclip carpet from door sill. Fold carpet back as best you can, the early V8's have a thick foam backing (better noise insulation) that makes this a bit of a pain. Remove 2 x 10mm nuts that holds plastic cover on. Remove 10mm nut holding ECU down. Undo bolt that lock plugs into front of ECU - it need a lot of undoing.

Coil will not give a no start. Ignitor will not give a no start. Putting jumper cables onto the battery may be giving the crook cap inside the Engine ECU a boost and allowing it to start. Swap your sons ECU for yours. Take cover of yours and you will more than likely see the single cap on the top board is all swollen and leaky.

thanks for that peter. I have located the ecu and removed the ecu bolt, i was just wondering how to remove wiring , just undo the bolt and it will be out. Yay got it out. Now i have to wait til it stops raining so i can go remove the ecu from my sons car. Gee by the time i do all this ill know the car inside and out lol. This is a good learning curve. Thanks guys, this is the last thing im going to try. After this its off to phil in maddington. Thanks Liz Perth WA
