Hi. I have a problem with my UZZ31. Its just arrived off the boat, but am having trouble starting it. Battery is carrying a full charge, she is cranking without a problem so the starter is ok. Fuel pump is fine also. Do you have any ideas? I think the plugs are ok. Are there any ignition controllers or coil packs that commonly go?
It is cranking perfectly but it doesnt seem to be firing on any cyliners. its only around 95km and in immaculate condition. For the record, it started at the auction and port in japan. it has somehow fouled during transit.

Since there are effectively 2 ignition systems on the V8, it is rare to have a complete Ignition failure.
IE: Two coils, ...
Failure of one coil still lets the engine run, but poorly. In fact, so much unburnt fuel gets to the cat converters when a coil fails that it causes the cats to melt down, and the melted matrix often blocks the entire exhaust system.
Tried running diagnostics?
Other obvious things to check are the fuses and the relays.

In most instances they try to jump start the car, get the jumpers on the wrong way around and BLOWS the FUSEABLE LINKS. These are located in the box behind the battery. Also check the INJECTOR fuse in that same box, its all by itself in the front / left / corner nearer the guard. This in turn also blows 1 or 2 fuses in the kick panel fuse box.

Hello.
Thanks for all your advice and help.
For the sake of future questions, it turned out to be a faulty crank angle sensor. We checked the fuses, battery plugs etc. This was one thing we didnt think of, but a diagnostic brought it out.
