Manny,

I am sorry if I have stuffed up what I was trying to express. No offence was intended. I am not advocating a prohibition on comment or rules protecting the sensitive ego's of us underpowered V8 owners. When I said "take the bait" I intended to mean when any opportunity was offered such as in someone posting about how to improve a sluggish 1UZFE immediately being told they needed to get a real engine etc. This forum does not yet suffer from that level of behaviour, I was more interested in discussing how we could avoid it.

I joined the forum almost as soon as it opened and posted the "take the bait" comment in reference to prior experience. I started this thread more to try and express a desire that Soarer Central stays as it is, rather than to complain about what was happening because I am enjoying it now and I don't want to see it deteriorate. From some of the other posts in the thread it has touched a nerve already so some healthy debate about how we conduct ourselves, myself included is a good thing.

You personally are one of the most helpful and knowledgeable members in answering questions. What I was trying to articulate was that there is not much point in others berating people about their choice of induction system. Engines could be swapped but it is not always a practical option for most owners. On some other forums it reads like there is a need to apologise in advance for driving a V8 because it is such a slow lump as a preface to a post about anything related to stopping and going.

A certain level of humour is essential and I don't know where the balance is. I agree completely that it is important people like yourself correct errors and misconceptions wherever they occur. I am sure I'm guilty of baiting TT owners on another forum, I think it was after I let myself get wound up by a twit, my fault.

As I said in my post we all chose what we drive, most of us could swap cars if we felt the need. I think we should respect each others choices and and limit ourselves to pointing out misconceptions and errors about the various engines rather then running down one vs the other. Perhaps some reference article that set out factually the issues which are often debated in ignorance would be useful.

Colour, body-kits, wings, wheels etc. are subjective and hopefully we will always feel free to express a humorous opinion about each others taste. When it comes to engines however short of a major mortgage my V8 will always be slower than any mildly tuned TT and telling people this, repeatedly will annoy some of them. Equally describing turbochargers as hairdryers, unreliable etc. is just as annoying to TT owners. A certain amount of it is unavoidable and probably desirable. I just don't want to see it become a constant theme throughout the forum.

There is nothing wrong with humour about each others cars so long as we avoid it becoming an obstacle to having an enjoyable and useful forum.

Manny, I am sorry if I have offended you. It was not intended and not deserved on your part.

If we didn't have this sort of entertainment,we would all have to go get lives, such as doing jobs around the house or restoring old cars or taking our wives out. What a horrible thought.

Jeff

Sorry, I was not trying to say a TT has to be modified to be faster than a V8. My point, badly stated was that a TT appropriately modified will be a LOT faster than a V8. I know a stock TT is faster what I failed to express was that a TT has the potential to be so much faster that it is pointless even debating it.

Both engines can make more power. It just costs a lot less per KW with a TT and there are more go fast bits on the shelf. I am sure there are unfathomably powerful twin turbocharged 1UZFE's running methanol and huge boost. The reality is for any given budget the V8 will never compete on power with the TT.

Sorry if I gave the impression a TT had to be modified to be faster. Clearly not the case and not what I intended, my bad.

I agree on the farts, with leather some days recirc is just not an option. Sometimes, especially after sardine sandwiches I wish I had a sunroof!

I don't normally have a lot to say about a lot of topics posted on this site, but every one that owns a Soarer, whether it be an N/A six through to a fully loaded Active, has brought their cars for their own reasons. If they want to spend X amount of dollars improving the performance or the street appeal of their vehicles, and want to shout it to the world that is their choice, obviously they are proud of what they have achieved.

But I tend to think that someone will dangle a worm every now and then, and someone else will jump to the bait, hopefully it wont get out of hand,{ there nothing like a bit of humor to brighten up some very dull days, this forum is not short of humor or plenty of useful information.}end of rant.

Excellent contributions people.

I know where Roger's coming from, AND I know where Manny's coming from .

I am, as you know a UZZ30 pilot, I have never had the pleasure of piloting a TT, hopefully one day I will.
In the mean time I, (vicariously) through this forum have experienced the joy's of driving a TT, and a Super Charged V8. I am content with my lot, and enjoy the banter between V8 & TT owners......to me it's NO BIGGIE!.

This thread is almost as interesting for what has been deleted/edited in the posts vs what remains! I did not think when I started it anyone would comment beyond a short reply from Pen. I think I should shut up for a while now....

Roger
I don't take any of what you noted personally and my comments were not directed specifically at you mate, they were very generalised and in an attempt to show what it feels like from this side of the fence - the frustration and conditions you describe are just as common to TT as V8 owners, some just deal with it in different ways to others.
I trust that common sense will always prevail in the TT vs V8 banter/debate, however, it wouldn't be the first time I or another moderator axed a thread when things got out of hand - and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

In the meantime, can you do something about the repeat enormous length of your posts?

Maybe you just need a "welcome" e-mail which tells newbies not to worry about the apparent schism between owners of the different variants :-)

(and between NZ and Oz, and poms and colonials, and whatever other mickey-taking crops up from time to time....)

Gareth, it's not a problem........it's just the perrenial question........which came first, the chicken or the egg.......or such similar scenario.

In MY opinion..........." HAPPENS", or words to that effect............!.

I classify it as "Bubble gum for the mind", something to occupy oneself with, while one is waiting for something of real value to present itself.

My thoughts are:

If it's funny - Great.
If it's factual - Great.
If it's just antagonistic or personal - Not so great.

It isn't an issue worth either censorship or rules, in fact I would like to not need to have rules at all (apart from commercial trading).

Roger, personally I love your posts, detailed, informative, thought provoking and well written, please keep them coming.

I am curious about your "edited/deleted" comment however.

From what I can see, the only significant edit was Manny changing a one-liner to a more complete response. Or did I miss something?

As I've said before Peter.......lets NOT get too political, cos we are in danger of becoming the government , ie: Too much pandering to the vocal MINORITY, rather than accepting the SILENT (relatively) MAJORITY.

As in "Let things run their natural course".

Ok

This is for Bagg's to even things up a bit.

A hard-to-get-green, bog standard TT Soarer was stopped by the Police doing 325Km/h during a fairly quick trip across Arthur's Pass heading back from the glaciers. The officer asked what the rush was and the driver explained he had 50 Aussies who had to get to the airport or miss their flight. The officer explained if he could fit 50 Aussies in a Soarer he would let him off with a warning. At that the door opened and 50 10cm tall Aussies hopped out. What the fcuck are they asked the officer. The TT driver explained "Just aussies with all the bulls__t washed off by the west coast rain, their tour bus broke down". They made the flight with a police escort.
