I have a 1991 UZZ32 and find that the transmitter, incorporated in the ignition key, does not appear to be working. Does anyone know of somewhere, apart from Toyota, where I can obtain a new key-transmitter, coded to match the existing ROM in the ECU or alternatively a new key-transmitter and ROM.

You might get lucky by changing the battery in the key, but most Soarers have been fitted with after market immobilisers for insurance purposes, and that makes the OEM stuff redundant.

Peter,
Have already tried changing the battery. Originale was showing 3.0 volts, however changed it for a new one and no difference. Have since taken key apart (originale Toyota key with logo). Ran a hot iron over the joints, all to no avail. Would have thought that others would have experienced similar problems with this system. My vehicle has an after market immobiliser fitted however it does not work the remote door lock/unlock. Will keep trying and advise this site the outcome.

It may be some action by the alarm installer, or else that the receiver is cactus. I assume the auto-locking at 24km/h works?

My original central locking key works but, as Pen said, I do not use it because the alarm system provides the same function while also switching the alarm.

Don't forget the 'remote key' disable switch near the fuel filler switch.

Luke,
Ouch!! Oh yes too many switches on the dam thing, perhaps I should go back to an FJ Holden.
I guess giving the transmitter a touch up won't do it any harm especially with all the rain and associated humidity we are experiencing at the moment.
Will now try and hook up the door entry to the immobiliser and complete the deal.
Many thanks Luke.

Regards,
Ross Gates.

When I was handed the key to my 92'SC400 from a private vendor,I did'nt even ask whether it had a keyless ( wireless) try/doorlocks(Although the doors lock up automatically at ~25km/hr) - Can I obtain a remote key for my unit ?

Mark, you have a couple of choices. Toyota make a little 3 button remote. The buttons are Lock, Unlock, and Boot release. I don't know if the central unit is replaced with it though, or if it is programmed to the original unit.

Or you can get an immobiliser fitted that also drives the central locking.

Or an alarm with immobiliser and central locking.

It depends on your requirements and available funds.

Insurance requires a black-wire 3 point immobiliser - it kills Ignition, fuel pump and starter motor.

In the standard remote tab are three very small surface mounted switches ['single pole single throw' or 'SPST' 'momentary']. The legs go dry joint and that happened on mine. I am currently replacing the switches with 60cent parts from Altronics. I am also a trade qualified electronic tech so re-soldering is easy for me but risk damaging the item forever if someone doesn't have experience with mini component pcb repairs.

Or go to Dick Tricky Dicks for a replacement item, this is an example of a 'learning remote' which should by all indications be in the correct frequency range [255-500Mhz]:
