should the viewing screen showing temperature / fan speed / air on/off be illuminated at night when my lights are on ?
mine does not backlight in the dark even when park / headlights are on

You should find just about everything Soarer related that you need on this site. But like the old saying about God, we help those that help themselves, so having a look in the Electrical topic or doing a search would have revealed the answer for you.

They should light up, and you can even get into it and modify the lighting.

Warren, the bottons are illuminated by three bulbs located inside the a/c control unit. I guess all three may have blown, or the connector strip providing power to the bulbs may have worked loose. As Peter notes, there are many information sources on this forum as well as clublexus in the US. Depending on your ability and inclination, you could DIY using one of these info sources, or remove and send it to Mark Paddick (on this forum), and get the bulbs changed for LED's at the same time. If your LCD is 'bleeding', you may want to swap the entire A/C control unt for a 'new' unit from e-bay etc - choices are many...
