SoarerCentral.
Each time i go to open a new window in SoarerCentral.com and then scroll down the new messages to open another one the window that i was previously opening always waits till right before i click the next message and JUMPS in focus.
this is driving me nuts. i use a tabbed browser at home so its ok, but here at work i used IE and the windows popping into focus after loading is driving me berko!

I think I know what you're talking about where it jumps to the front of whatever you're doing. It's very annoying when you leave it to load and go back to do something else then it interrupts? Is there something that can be done to change it?

I think this got mentioned right after SC was launched. Don't recall whether anyone was able to put their finger on the cause. Since then, it has been forgotten about.
Unless any web coders have some suggestions, probably the only way to track it would be to set up a dummy forum then slowly add in the modifications until the problem was duplicated.
Seeing as it doesn't happen to me, that would be a very laborious task :-\
Can we perhaps have a count of how many people it is affecting, that can't deal with it eg by adding a tabbed interface such as Crazy Browser?

I was the one pissing and moaning about it when it was launched as I was using ie at work. I like to go through the forum and open all the windows I want to look at and then read em but ie brings each one to the front as they open. Like Paul said, it drives ya mental. I fixed it by using firefox everywhere now lol.

I like the water applet, and every now and then just attack it with the mouse just to see well the water swirl around. Maybe a picture like a Soarer up there with the Eye Candy still going on down the bottom.

yeh the water applet is a resource hog. Not on my home pc but at uni the computer just dies. Java is becoming more and more bloated. The worse thing is if your browsing different webpages that both use different applets it will open up two instances of itself!!! die!!!

Aha here is the missing thread!
Actually replacing the water applet with Soarers is not a bad idea. What if members could submit photos of their cars at the correct size to be randomly put up?

www.maxthon.com <- good for work as it overlays IE and gives you tabbed windows. All your favourites, proxy setting etc work OK even when you're on a different machine with only IE installed.

Maxthon sounds similar to Crazy Browser then.
OK, first up there is a minor upgrade to Discus that has just been released, though I don't think it will affect this issue at all. I will apply it tonight.
Next, there is a 2nd upgrade, pretty much out of beta that I will probably wait a little longer before applying. No new user features are in these 2 minor releases.
I will also disable the water applet and we can test if that makes any difference.
The difficulty that I have, is that the IE pop-up problem doesn't happen here, possibly because I am on an ethernet link to the server so the pages come up too fast. So testing is difficult.
Change of colour scheme isn't going to happen, I like it just as it is. Anyone that doesn't can put a coloured filter on their screen.
Changing the basic layout isn't going to happen either. Making changes isn't trivial, and there can be flow-on effects that impact on other parts of the screen. If you want variety, turn your monitor on it's side.

I may start on doing a backup and applying the first upgrade soon, so if you see "Maintenance Mode" then that is what is happening, but it should only last for a few minutes at a time.

Thanks Matthew, a lot of work went into the design and layout of SC, and readability, ease of use, and soothing colours were all part of what I was trying to achieve.

Don't change the layout Peter. Just remove the applet. Mine does the same thing but it's really not a problem. I think we should think of people that have problems with it though.
I like the idea of a eye-candy style thing that puts in peoples cars instead but I don't know how much work this would involve.
