After googling TRD parts on the internet, I came across this thread on the MRT forum.

http://www.mrtrally.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=36&whichpage=4

In that thread, I noticed a comment from a guy who seems to work for DBA. His response to another guy who asked about TRD pads....

"The TRD pads distributed in the U.S use the Axxis Ultimate compound which is a cheaper version of Bendix Ultimates. This what I am told from a reliable source."

Thoughts? Comments?

Interesting... Mark Emerson from Penrith Toyota told me that the TRD pads were made by Ferodo here in Australia for TRD and exported to Japan etc - then bought back here by some of us.

On the topic of EBC Greenstuff pads - put me the "won't ever use them again camp".

Had a set of the Greenstuff V4s on my wife's Forester GT and they constantly left a resin deposit on the surface of the disk which caused an awful shuddering when braking. Tried cleaning the resin off with emery paper but they were still no good. Ended up throwing them in the bin after a couple of months.

alright, it looks like i'm gonna be deciding between the ebc greenstuffs and the ferodo 2500's, depending basically on availability, cos i've been busy for the last week rectifying a blown radiator.

manny - how long ago was your bad experience with the greenstuffs? we talking years, or months? cos a few of the guys i've spoken to here have used them very recently, and have not said anything bad about them.

so, what (roughly) is gonna be the price diff for the two? just looking to fit front pads only, leaving stock TT pads on the rears - this should be fine?? or replace pads all round??

keeping in mind, yes, its my first track day at wanneroo/barbagello, so i'll possibly be jumping on them a bit heavy now and then to save myself, but i wont be going all-out hard, and relying on late-braking at every corner in the push for stupid lap times...mainly concerned in learning the lines, and how the soarer handles.

Put it this way, have you ever read a real complaint about the DS2500's?

Shane
Over 5 years ago was my experience but having a read on numerous forums around the world, my experience isn't unique in more recent years.
I'd never use them again, but at the end of the day, green stuff is for the street and red stuff for the track - don't kid yourself and just use the right one in the right place and you should be right.

I spent about an hour on Saturday talking to my brake guy after picking up my new rotors (Stuart at Better Brakes Mitcham, awesome guy and knows his stuff). He reckons the problem with the Greenstuffs are that when they are used heavily too quickly after installation, ie without a 200-300km bed in, the resin shifts from within the pad and deposits on the rotor. This causes sticky patches that the pad grips to.

i'm using DBA4000 rotors and endless pads all round on mine, and without even flushing the fluid (YET) the peddle feel is simply awesome, and talk about stop, they are light years ahead of the standard rotor and pad combination. The pads are the NA-S dust free ones i think, which are recommended for rotor temps between 70-450 i think. It may sound a little high to some, but even when cold they stop good and don't squeek like some.

From what i can tell this setup with the 4 pot supra callipers on the front would provide awesome stopping power.

my 2 cents worth :-)

ok, i'm looking for a west australian stockist of the ferodo ds2500's, or maybe an adelaide stockist who acn get them to me overnite?? places i've tried here in perth have rung back "umm....our ferodo stockist hasnt heard of ds series, only gx, target, and something else, are you sure you have the right pads??"

hence i'm asking for the part number for them.

ahhh - serves me right for not using the search function properly. i knew i was pushing it, having left the brakes to the last minute depending on whether i'd cracked the head gasket when i blew the radiator last week.

ended up ordering a set of lucas/trws (front & rears), upon reading this review (
http://soarer.ace.net.au/lucas_trw.html).
apologies to the person who's site this is, i know he's on the forums, but i'm having a total mental blank on his name at the moment.

it was either them, bendix ultimates, or the ebc greenstuffs...so, i took into account the negatives reported in this thread regarding the ebcs, and went for the lucas/trws.

cheers to everyone for their input, its been some invaluable knowledge!!

now i'm just looking forward to saturday - trackday!
