Help please. have been putting up with brake shudder too long.
I have shudder on braking that i strongly suspect of being due to warped rear discs which are undersized originals - front discs recently replaced with wrecker originals and machined. Im pretty sure it isnt abs or gearbox issues. so my questions are: 1) am i on the right track with my thinking re the source of the prob? 2) which should i go for dba sloted (at 260 per side), dba 4000 standard at (235 per side), or protex at (?) per side 3) where are protex sold in sydney and how much do they suck?
being poor as a church mouse who has been recently evicted from said church due to a temporary cash flow crisis, which do i choose?

thanks peter...yeah turns out to be hard to find someone willing to go the extra mile to fit protex...but i did it.. i also asked that they bleed the brakes. i am way satisfied the car stops on a dime and the change in brake fluid is phenomenal...just thought id give the protex my thumbs up. In addition i was always given advice that brake shudder was almost always due to the front discs...not so...these were rears.

Was the shuddering through the steering wheels? I've got shuddering too, and i thought it must be the front rotors, but they dont seem to be the culprit, because they are DBA. I'm thinking it could be the rears like yours...

Hi ken, the shuddering was quite noticeable on the wheel, the pedal as well as seat and console...it started off mildly and got terrible over around 6 months. I concentrated all my efforts onto the machining of the front discs, replacement of the front discs etc. There was some improvement afterwards which mislead me further. Also when i now think about it, since the rear brakes are smaller they would logically be more likely to warp over time than the fronts. Good luck. I got midas to do the rears and they charged me $440 for the two rear discs + pads, all fitted. If all your discs have plenty of meat you would be better off getting all four machined at same time methinks.

Heya Ben, your shuddering sounds pretty bad. I've no idea what it could be. Have you asked around the local mechanics in lidcombe? Theres this mechanic which i just knew, where i got my clutch done and he seems to be pretty cheap. You know Autopro in homebush Parramatta rd? The mechanic is just behind it, its called Pitstop, and the owner is Wally.
Im just gonna have to put up with my shuddering through the steering wheel abit longer. Its strange because sometimes its not there. Weird.
Sorry Daniel, no idea either, I havn't experience that before.

Ken, thanks for that, but as i posted, i got the probs all resolved with new rear discs (protex). with a change in brake fluid they are much firmer than before and no shudder.
