Since I brought the car a few months ago the ABS warning light appears on the dash. I found that one of the sensors on the passenger front wheel had lost the bolt. The bolt has been replaced. I disconnected the battery to reset but alas the light still appears. Is there someone in Sydney that I can take the car to that is familiar with this system.

Rob, I had the exact same problem and it turns out that the ABS warning light on the dash is part of compliance.

Apparently, from just recently, at compliance they add some electronic device to the ECU that will make it flash ABS to alert the driver that the car has ABS.

It sounds far fetched I know, but that is what I got told.

Nothing to worry about apparently.

It's an "Undoable" compliance mod.
If ya have a search using "abs" as the query, I think either Manny or Reepa wrote a brief "How to" get rid of the stupid thing

Um ... i'm confused totally by this ABS warning lamp. My car has just failed its roadworthy on account of the 'ABS light not working'. I have searched and found threads saying if it comes on it is bad news. Is it meant to come on if you do the big stop in the wet that brings the ABS into operation? I have not had to rely on it personally but the mechanic who did the roadworthy said that the ABS itself works, but not the globe.

Is it meant to flash on in a pre start system check to show the globe works? If its a globe replacement thing presumably that is a dashboard instrument housing out job or is there a trick. I have tried to search for it ..... Help please!

The lamp comes on at start up to prove the lamp works, if it comes on after that, then there is a fault.

It's possible the lamp has died, or that someone has messed with it for whatever reason.

Chris, if you start your car and wait until it's gone through its pre-start check and shows the time, then press the 'scroll' button. The cars' logic then scrolls through all the systems of which 'ABS' is one of the latter ones. If a fault is found then it will tell you with a 'bong', if no faults are found then it will just finish with the time display.
Once you set off and a fault arises on any of the systems then you'll get an alarm which will stay up until it clears or you switch off. It is then stored in the computer until cleared either by disconnecting the battery or doing a reset.
If the tester is thinking that the ABS sign should be lit and displayed on your screen for compliance then he's mistaken so just show him by using the scroll button or by looking at the screen as you go through the start sequence.
If the ABS sign doesn't show on any of these tests then it's a fault with the display and needs fixing.

Sounds like the 'the Aussie way'. } 20 years ago (ok maybe 10...) my eyes would have lit up and I would have thought 'How good is that when your car welcomes you with a bong, before giving you bad news.....!

Seriously though thanks to both of you for your swift answers. I think the problem might be the globe as it doesn't appear on the dash at any time. I will try that diagnostic test tomorrow Dave, and see what that tells me. It may be the globe as I have never seen the light on in any form. Hopefully it isn't the previous owner pulling the lead off to disguise the light flashing on in an expensive way.... as he had agreed to pay for anything needed for the roadworthy. The only other issue is what is listed as 'slight oil leak RHR shocker', so that is my next project, as I don't even understand what he means by shocker, given it's air suspension, and am just searching airbag threads now to find out where oil comes into the picture. Hopefully something a seal replacement will fix.

Thanks again re the ABS light.

The air suspension effectively replaces the spring, not the damper (or shock absorber or shock or shocker as you please). You still have a TEMS oil damper in there. The difficult part is that you can not replace it on its own SFAIK so if a repair can not be effected then you will need a new air strut.

Hmmm, thanks for that info David re the airbags.... the shocker terminology is what the mech had written on the job sheet. I will crawl around underneath the car to see just how bad an oil leak we are looking at.

As for the ABS switch I did the test as per instructions and even repeated it for good measure. No bongs forthcoming, no error messages at all, so either it is a globe or a connector problem somewhere. Hopefully not a dashboard fault. Is replacing the ABS globe a dash out thing or a bit easier. My dash was looking very faint the other day driving in sunlight so I was thinking of doing the dash cleanup and new blue light I saw written up somewhere.... maybe get all the bits together and do it all in one hit. Thanks for all the hints and pointers guys. Much appreciated.

Thanks..... I got over the problem quite easily in the end. I took it elsewhere to get a roadworthy and no problems. Passed with flying colours.

When I then asked him about the suspect airbag he said they were perfect. I explained that 'some mechanic' had looked at the car and said one was leaking and he put it on the ramp and proved to me it didn't. He felt the mechanic must have been 'a bit quiet' and in need of work. He then joked and said that's what you get when you drive in with Lexus badges!

Anyone elses ABS warning flash up when .using a turbo timer?

It's baffling me. Everything works ok, but I just get a 'bong' and red ABS warning when I take the key out but leave the car running with the turbo timer.
