Hi,
This morning when I got into my car to drive off to work I went through the normal procedures such as foot on brake, handbrake off and select reverse however when I released the brakes the car did not move. I tried some gentle acceleration but the car just refused to move, it was trying to but it was as if the brakes were locked in the rear, finally the car let go and there was a loud bang or cracking sound. I got out and had a quick look but everything seemed okay. I drove it to work without too much hassle but I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this problem and if it seems fine now should I still be concerned?

Did you just wash your car or has it been raining in your area? I've seen the symptoms you describe when cars get put away wet and hot with the hand brake on. It seems that the surface rust that forms (or something) bonds the disc to the caliper, or seizes the caliper so it does not release.
It may just be coincidental but it only ever happens when the discs have a little surface rust from being wet.

Yes that would explain it, it has been recently raining and I also washed the car the afternoon before. I have noticed that after I wash the car that the brakes are a bit dodgy. Thanks Ben!

Master cylinder Piston not releasing, happend to my Supra, started of I noticed it a little, then one day I was driving down the road, tapped the brake to slow down a bit, the car came to a complete stop, took the piston 30 mins to release the brake fluid back into the cylinder and I could move again, down side was I had to drive home with no brakes.
