So, I have been trying to teach myself how to weld. I was sitting around this morning with a pile of scrap metal trying to think of something useful to weld. I decided to try and make a brake cylinder brace.
Here is the result.
I fitted it up and tested the brakes (idling on the driveway) and was pretty surprised at how much flex there was. About 5-6mm flex in the firewall etc. I adjusted the 'stopper' and flex reduced dramatically.
I need to go back and modify the design as the brace itself has some flex in it. I will extend the triangular pieces the full length of the straight edge (to the bolt holes when I next get a chance. After a test drive pedal feel was noticeably better, and more 'positive'. Should be better still once the design fault flex is eliminated

I'd rather get this one 100% sorted before I do anything like that. I'm a novice, and not that confident about making stuff for others yet. I made this out of scrap a mate gave me to practice welding on.
Maybe I'll do it in the future, once I've got this design sorted out. What would be really good is get it made up out of alloy instead of mild steel, but that is waaaaay beyond my capabilities at this stage.
