After I've been fairly heavy on the brakes, and they've warmed up quite a bit, I'm hearing an oscillating noise when braking. There is no real shudder in the steering wheel or chassis, just a loud rubbing noise. Pads are near new, so does it sound like I have a warped disk somewhere?

Not really, what pads did you fit?

Can't remember what brand the mechanic put on but I'm pretty sure this was happening before the new pads went on. He gave an option of 2 types and I went for the more expensive brand.

You probably need to start by working out where the noise is coming from - front or rear then try to see or imagine what might cause the particular noise.

I had a simular problem a little while ago. It ended up to be one of the rear calipers had seized closed.

Might pay just to drop in to a brake specialist and get them to check it over.

It's pretty easy to jack one wheel up at a time and rotate the wheel and see if you get a noise.

If there's a noise then remove the wheel and have a look and see what you can see.

As Scott mentioned, if you are in any doubt take it to someone qualified.

Matt.

I know this is an old thread but I'm having a similar problem after upgrading to supra brakes on my jzx100. When the brakes first went on they made a slight grinding/whuring type sound on full lock more so in reverse. This went away but now it still happens if the brakes get hot. Roughly 2 or 3 stops from 100km/h will heat the brakes up to make this terrible sound. When it's making this sound my foot will be off the brake completely. It looks like the possibly the top of the disc grinds on the caliper but I can't be sure. So pretty much no good for track work at all. When the brakes cool the noise goes away.

So far we tried replacing the conversion nuts thinking that they offset the caliper slightly in the wrong position. That made no difference and also we compared the disc to another to see if the one I had was slightly bigger but they looked exactly the same. Don't know if it's related but when I'm driving if I tap the brakes I will hear a clicking noise coming from the brakes/pad. Any ideas guys? Please help. I don't want to replace the whole braking system just to figure out what's wrong.
With stock brakes I never had this issue only brake fade on the track with no abnormal sound like the one I'm getting now.

have you fitted the "spring clips" that stop rattle/drag?

They connect between the 2 pads and hold them apart.

there are holes in the pads for them to fit in
