Hey guys
Last week i found out that my left hand rear hub was rooted, so i had my mechanic replace it. Since he has replaced it my brakes have been acting strangely. What happens is when i'm slowing down at the traffic lights and the car reaches exactly 7kp/h it feels like the ABS kicks in, (Pedal pulsates furiously for about 2 seconds) then when the car is almost at a complete stop, the shudder stops and the pedal sinks a bit. Mind you this isn't under heavy braking, just plain everyday light brake application. Now what makes it a little more interesting is that if i keep the car rolling while applying the brakes and maintaining the 7kp/h speed (eg. down a slight hill), the ABS feeling doesn't stop at all (pedal keeps pulsating) till i get to about 3kp/h and then the pedal stops pulsating again and sinks. Has anyone had this problem or got any ideas?
Thanks
Neil Griffiths

Ummmmm,
If no problemo before work was done.
Then obviously something is wrong in that area !

Possible damage to ABS Sensor in that axle, as it has to be removed to disassemble the hub.

Yeah someone mentioned that could be the problem but i wanted some more opinions before replacing and spending more $$ when it could be something else. Thanks for that

Shouldn't cost you anything if the mechanic is responsible for stuffing it up.

Maybe your master cylinder needs to be flushed for air pockets.

Yeah i was thinking the same thing Matthew but he's not taking the responsibility. He reckons it was stuck in there from all the rust and could have possibly been damaged when removed.

If he didn't tell you that when you picked the car up, I'd say he needs to take at least some of the responsibility. Did he even bother to test drive it after doing the work?

Tony, just remove it and clean it. Its a magnetic sensor, you will see it easy enough. One bolt to get it out, i just didn't think to take it out and give it a wipe, i was more looking to see if the wires were damaged.

No he didn't test drive it, i just picked it up and got a shock to find that i fixed one problem but received another. Hmmm i will try cleaning it tomorrow, unfortunately my mechanic has already ordered me another sensor hopefully he can cancel the order if this works. Fingers crossed, will let you know how i go, thanks.

Gave the magnet a clean but didnt help and the wires looked fine. Hopefully replacing the sensor will solve the problem.

are the little notches on the new hub still there? maybe they are dodgy so the sensor is getting a dodgy signal

Yeah the notches looked fine to me. I ended up removing the ABS relay until i sort this problem out. Bit dangerous driving the way it was. Geez these cars can get on your nerves.

Trust me, any old car is the same, they all end up driving you nuts.
