hi guys I need advice on brakes..now i know you can fit the turbo brakes onto a V8 also the supra brakes and the late model LS 400..I'm leaning towards the LS 400 as they are supposed to be lighter and a good option as the Supra ones are pretty rare but so are the LS 400 in Australia. I would prefer to get the bigger brake as i intend to do the supercharger on my V8 one day and for legalities it would probably be better to have the big brakes.. my question is what exactly is the modification required to fit them and where is a good place to source them..keeping in mind i intend to do both front and rear..hoping for all the parts required, willing to buy new rotors from DBA if required..some advice on this would be much appreciated..
You'll also need new rotors. I'm getting RDA rotors for mine. Go to www.rdabrakes.com.au for contact details and nearest dealer. They are $130-$150 each for 1998 LS400 slotted rotors. They are the ones for 16" wheels.
Make sure you have room enough for them. You may need to change wheels to accommodate bigger brakes.

Yes I recommend you upgrade the brakes when you get your SC as the V8 brakes are not that great to begin with. This may also mean different sized wheels as well with the correct offset. I am currently upgrading to Supra TT brakes myself, sourced off USA Ebay and they would not fit under my 18" wheels! So new wheels it is, as spacers are illegal. See www.planetsoarer.com for the brake upgrade details. The Supra brakes are a direct bolt on. Toyota Australia have no spare parts in Australia. The repair kits have to come from Japan - I used Penrith Toyota - 3 weeks delivery time - club price $36 for the front shim kit, $45 each for rotor covers and $15 freight to Perth. Don't forget to get S/S brake lines all round when you do the job. Neil and Maltech have them, along with new premium brake fluid. Also - if you get the chance - choose the brakes that come with pads with little wear. Replacement pads are expensive. But like you said, Supra TT brakes aren't that easy to find. Be patient and you will find some, either in Japan via Jeff or in the US.

Toyota pads for the LS400 front brakes are only $100/set and are great for the road. There aren't as many performance pads & rotors for the LS400 brakes compared to the Supra brakes but Neil can get Ferodo DS2500 pads for them if you wanted to do any track days.
Rear brakes on the LS400 are the same as the rears on the TT Soarer so you can get those pretty cheaply.

ok i'll try Jeff Harper maybe...i would want a set of calipers with all the clips and squeal shims right also the dust guard as bending my original ones back sounds dodgey..one question i have are the rear turbo soarer calipers and the LS 400 ones identical...i mean the piston diameters for example as i wanted a nice matched set so brake bias is ok..am i being to fussy?

The rear disks are the same diameter and I'm 99% sure the callipers are functionally the same. I have Soarer TT rears and LS400 fronts and they're fantastic.

Pads for Supra brakes are around the $100 a set too. Toyota had all the bits I needed in stock, pads, rotors and retaining clips. I didn't need kits as the calipers were new.
