I have a problem with my brakes. It's like the booster is not working properly, although i replaced the booster hoping this was the problem. The brake pedal is quite firm and at low speeds if you hit the brake pedal as hard as you can it only rolls to a stop. Under normal driving conditions it will stop the car and has passed the brake test for rego, but it's not what it should be.

Any ideas on what could be causing this problem?

Cheers

I can't detect any vacuum leaks to the booster. Could there be a problem with the ABS?

Unlikely as the ABS only kicks in when the amount of braking causes the wheels to lose traction.

Does your car have TRC? If so, it could be the accumulator. If not, then as Christian said, look for vacuum leaks.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if there may be some solenoid that wasn't opening completely in the ABS unit.

The car doesn't have TRC. I've gone over the vacuum lines again tonight and I can't see or hear any leaks.

Another symptom is that the pedal takes a short time to return to the neutral position after braking.

I think i might have to take it to the professionals.

If you have ruled out the servo then it sounds like its an air trap or fluid pressure issue to me - if you are satified that the system is properly blead, then maybe its a leaking or faulty master cylinder?
