Part number: 47950 - 24020 (5/1991 - 9/1997)

Fits: JZZ30, UZZ3#..ATM

Replacement Method No.1 (Neil)

1. Release PRESSURE from the pump body. (RED line and RED capped bleed valve down the side). ( easy to see )

2. Use Stilsens (or strap oil filter remover) to loosen accumulator.

3. Unscrew & remove.

4. Replace with the new seals ( Black O ring to bottom, White Teflon on top).

5. Screw it on and just *nudge* tighten it.

6. Start car, bleed air out of the fluid from RED capped nipple.
( BE CAREFUL, IT COMES OUT AT HIGH PRESSURE )

At this stage it should be all done

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Replacement Method No.2 (Smiffie)

1. Rather than undoing the nipple, with engine off just press the brake pedal about 20 times until you can feel there is no pressure, this saves on any problems with bloody knuckles and stripped nipples.

2. As in 1st method.

3. Unscrew and remove. This is so easy, be careful you don’t pull out the little pin and it falls down behind the ABS pump.

4. This sounds like all you have to do is change the seal, but it isn’t so,
The white plastic seal has been bad on EVERY one we have taken off, it looks like it gets pinched when it is fitted, I have removed the white plastic one and fitted a rubber one in its place and it has worked fine, but then I didn’t know if the seal was causing the fault or not.

5. As in 1st method.

6. (Different to 1st method). I have never had to do this as I have never released the pressure from the nipple.
(I am not saying this is wrong, just that I don’t do it that way, and you might want to leave the nipple until you have tried it first).

Rodger, it's normal for the pump to run after or when you apply the brakes as it needs to restore the pressure lost by using the brakes.

The warning light may be for low brake fluid, fill it slightly above the full lever and see what happens.

I'm with Neil on this one Rodger.
Leave the accumulator alone, unclip the cable that goes to the brake fluid reservoir then go for your drive and see if you get the error message after 2 miles.
If no error message then it points to your level sensor. If the level is low then top up. If the level is ok then o/haul the sensor (there's a procedure if you use 'Search'.
The accumulator should be ok if the booster pump only runs now and then. If it runs every few seconds then it's probably out of nitrogen pressure and you'll need a new one.

It usually makes a loud squeky noise when breaking. Thats when you know it needs replacing, and ofcourse the error msgs on the dash.

(Well my one did, it was very annoying)

Hi everyone,

Have just encountered the exact same problem here with my lights and bongs going crazy.

Smiffie changed the accumulator for me using his method as above and hey presto............no more problems!!

I had been having all kinds of nightmares prior to this with the car, now I can take it out without any fear.

Ha! New for $300 gez you must have good mates who do you know??? Sorry Jeff but the going rate for a new one now is $685 from Toyota and a few nice guys around like Gary at Peter Kittle Toyota might do it slightly lower. Garry quoted me around the $550 dollar mark...

Hi Guys,
The brake system warning light keeps popping up especially on startup before it finishes the system check and then my car stalls and i have trouble starting it.

I rev the motor until the system check is finished and the car runs great.

Ive filled up the break fluid but noticed that the accumulator was turning off and on when the key was in the on position.

If it is the accumulator would it course my car to stall before doing the system check?

Liz, the accumulator should just charge up and stay charged until you use the brake pedal. It's probably due to be replaced or recharged.

I can't see that this would have any bearing on the car stalling however.

I get the squeaky sound every now and again when applying the brakes (no error msg's) so i assume this means the brake accumulator needs to be recharged?

Has anyone in Melb had this done before, if so where?

Have a listen under the bonnet first, just to be sure it is the accumulator.

Andy, 2 things.

Please don't post the same thing multiple times.

Please try to remember what you were taught about writing in primary school. Not using any punctuation makes your post hard to read and understand. Probably the people that could help you, won't bother.

Ok i just bought a V8 soarer, and i've got the brake warning message on the dash. The device shown in the first picture makes a pumping noise every 3 seconds or so, combined with a clicking noise from the other side of the engine bay, and a slight flicker of all lights. I gather this is the accumilator, and needs fixing? Peter, being from SA like yourself, which is the best way to go? regas, or replace?
The person i bought it from said they had the brake system checked out due to the warning message, and all was ok.?

Chris, I haven't heard of any problems with regassed units, or you can get a rebuilt unit from Peter Taplin. Or get a new one if it makes you feel better. :-)

Guys, just changed over my accumulator with a recondition one from Steve Latimer/Peter Taplin and it works perfectly. It has never been so quiet. Well worth the money to get it done.

Also If you were wondering like i was about the white ring, it is meant to have the split. I thought mine was stuffed

This has to be the most simple and easiest fix to do.

Cheers again Steve Latimer and Peter Taplin, great service.
