Hi All,

Wondering if anyone has retrofitted ABS brakes to a non ABS equipped car? If so what was required?

I am thinking....

Hub Cradles & associated ABS Sensor wiring (if ABS Sensor plug is not there)
ABS ECU
ABS Brake Module
Brake Lines

Anything else?

Master cylinder. The non ABS (on my TT at least) has one less line out.

There are four wheel speed sensors with a shielded cable( three wires) to each.

As the track car is stripped I should be able to get pics for you if you go ahead with it.

Don't forget to do a tutorial on this, and after that, one on retrofitting an airbag.

Why would you wont to fit ABS, it would be a huge task and what is there to gain??

It doesn't work well in a soarer or at least anywhere near as well as modern day cars. From my experience the pulse rate is very slow and long and it greatly increases the braking distance.

Ive never been a fan of ABS, i like been in control of what the car is doing. There have been a few times where i locked up the brakes for a fraction of a second to wash some speed of and then jumped back off them to get steering back. This isnt i just Soarers, it has saved me from a few potentially close calls and if it had ABS i probably would have hit whatever it was.

...which is the point of ABS. BUT I do know where you are coming from.

On the track car I have kept it and combined with semi slicks and light weight it has worked well.

The road car is a pov pack and never had it, and I've never missed it.
