Wow... so much to read...
So what have we concluded and/or proven in cyberspace theory - is a calliper/rotor upgrade a good thing or not for Z30 Soarers in street and/or track use?

On a Z30 or Z32, Jeff's last list looks a good summary. Personal taste for me says tyres first pads second. If you have done the first three then you will get a lot more advantage out of step 4. For track use I defer to people who are using the car there but if I myself were planning regular track work I would definitely write bigger brighter better discs and calipers on my shopping list, and bigger wheels to fit them (and to carry wider tyres) in my case.
On a Z31 I agree with the established view of this forum that you pick step 4, even for street use, via a TT upgrade at least at the front. Tyres I always do first anyway

Unfortunately I can not answer that very well as yet Jeff. Mainly, I have driven the car very little since Neil changed the rotors before Christmas. I had TT calipers and standard TT rotors already. Also, I have not yet put in the black pads, planning to wear out the Toyota pads first.
When I picked the car up the brakes tended to shudder under pressure. I have been bedding in the old pads on the new rotors and will discover soon whether it is just a bedding problem or the discs need machining.
So, This will take three stages. First, make sure they are working properly, then see how they feel then, a few thousand kilometres later, try the fancy pads.
I am considering wider tyres but that depends how much more performance I seek to give the car, not yet decided, and no less on wearing out my existing tyres. This could take bloody months!

No, they had 5k on them when purchased. I drove yesterday and am not slamming the pedal yet but it seems to be getting smoother so it may be just the used pads with one set of rotors encountering another set of used rotors. I will discuss it with Neil on Monday.
I'm sorry to hear about the shudder, David - I do hope it's just the initial disharmony between two surfaces hitherto unfamiliar with each other I never had that problem, but I suppose in fairness I had the discs and pads changed at the same time. Hope it gets sorted.

I'll talk to Neil on Monday and then I am driving to Sydney and back Monday-Tuesday so that should help sort out whether there is a problem or whether it is improving as I think it is.

As I thought might happen, the brakes appear to have settled down with a bit of exercise. I did not test them hard on the way back from Sydney as my aged mother may not have appreciated it but things are looking OK.
