(I have searched for an answer to this simple question and read a dozen links on this forum as well as consulting my own Soarer manual.)
My Soarer has just failed its WOF because the mechanic was adamant that there should be a 'ABS' light on the right hand side of dash display near 'AIR BAG'.
I however showed him that the ABS shows up in the 'SYSTEM CHECK' in the LCD at the bottom of the dash display and said that that shows all systems passed the self check. I have used this when ABS has been queried before and I don't remember ever seeing a separate ABS light.
Am I right, or should there actually be a separate light for ABS?

Just call him and say you've spoken with the soarer club and you are certain there is no "ABS light" like in a falcon or commodore or other cheap domestic car. Tell him your car has already passed and complied during the import process. Don't say he is wrong (as they will get his heckles up) ellude that he may not have dealt with many of these before

I remember having this conversation with my WOF guy when I first got it. Although mine was happy enough with my word, and the fact ABS worked fine.
Tell him to pull his head in and check his copy for the VIRM, specifically page 8-1-4, point 33 in the reasons for rejection "The ABS or brake system warning lamp or self-check system, if fitted, indicates a defect in the ABS or brake system (does not apply to brake pad wear warning systems)." It mentions nothing about requiring an ABS light, if he's still adamant, get him to show you what point he's failing you on

Theres none it, comes up on the scroll Dash.
In contrast my Celsior did have an ABS light.
Once again the perfect example of how little is known about these cars.
Must have been strange owning one back in the late 90's before there was much on the net about them. Though... I suppose if you owned one 10+ years ago you would have had big enough pocket book to go straight to the top line Toyota/Lexus dealers.

Mark, where abouts do you live? If it is not going too far out of your way just go to my brothers work in New Lynn, Hyde Automotive, 4 Crumm Ave, New Lynn. Both my brother and I own soarer's so besides having a good chin wag while getting your WOF you can be sure that your car is safe as my brother knows what to look for on these cars and also my brother gets the joy of driving another Soarer...

Yup, N A Hyde for West Auckland, or see Russel at Onehunga Automotive for Central/South - both top garages who actually do a proper job of a WOF check.

James - I'm living in Remuera at the moment, but have been taking the car to a garage in Onehunga out of habit. I rarely get over towards New Lynn, but thanks for the suggestion.

Sweet as Mark, I work in Onehunga and live in Mt Albert myself. What sort of work do you do? Just trying to plan a meet at some time as Mike Beck and my mate Mike Collins who are on this forum would be keen but when and where i have no idea...
