Hi

can anyone give me some pointers in removing my accumulator. I seem to be getting no where while trying to unscrew it. I've tried the oil filter re
mover but have had no luck.

Please let me know if u have any ideas

Just need to keep trying - it is very tight. Please make sure that you have released the pressure first by pumping the brake pedal many times with the engine off.

I managed to get mine off with a normal filter remover eventually.

This from Neil/Smiffie via Bags.

Part number: 47950 - 24020 (5/1991 - 9/1997)

Fits: JZZ30, UZZ3#..ATM

Replacement Method No.1 (Neil)

1. Release PRESSURE from the pump body. (RED line and RED capped bleed valve down the side). ( easy to see )

2. Use Stilsens (or strap oil filter remover) to loosen accumulator.

3. Unscrew & remove.

4. Replace with the new seals ( Black O ring to bottom, White Teflon on top).

5. Screw it on and just *nudge* tighten it.

6. Start car, bleed air out of the fluid from RED capped nipple.
( BE CAREFUL, IT COMES OUT AT HIGH PRESSURE )

At this stage it should be all done

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Replacement Method No.2 (Smiffie)

1. Rather than undoing the nipple, with engine off just press the brake pedal about 20 times until you can feel there is no pressure, this saves on any problems with bloody knuckles and stripped nipples.

2. As in 1st method.

3. Unscrew and remove. This is so easy, be careful you don’t pull out the little pin and it falls down behind the ABS pump.

4. This sounds like all you have to do is change the seal, but it isn’t so,
The white plastic seal has been bad on EVERY one we have taken off, it looks like it gets pinched when it is fitted, I have removed the white plastic one and fitted a rubber one in its place and it has worked fine, but then I didn’t know if the seal was causing the fault or not.

5. As in 1st method.

6. (Different to 1st method). I have never had to do this as I have never released the pressure from the nipple.
(I am not saying this is wrong, just that I don’t do it that way, and you might want to leave the nipple until you have tried it first).

Kim, you just need to get a good bit of leverage on it, which can be difficult, given its location. I broke 3 oil-filter removers trying to get mine off but eventually it came loose.
