I noticed that the new lexus car models, although newer and obviously better technology, the body shape is more like a mazda 626, nothing spectacular like a 1991 soarer body shape, it grabs attention from all sides of the street meters away. love my active.

No offence Oki,

But that is one thick coat of paint... Everywhere!

Don't mind the overall look though :-)

Thanks for the feedback Nathan,

if you look at it by the naked eye, paint doesn't look that thick.

for my first ever paint job, I am quite pleased with the end result.

As for yours, looks good, did you do yourself.

Another way to get a really good finish, is to sand them smooth first, start carefully with a grinder, then circular sander. Gets them super smooth, and looks more like aftermarket calipers.

both painting them and sanding them smooth reduces their ability to disperse heat..
having said that mine are painted.

Hey Oki,

Yes I painted them myself. I bought them second hand and the were painted red, so I used paint stripper to remove that and revealed the factory paint perfectly.

I was almost going to leave them at that but I wanted my new brakes to stand out a bit, so blasted them and went for a new coat of paint.

Oh yeah, I painted these off the car and fully dismantled.

Cheers.

Scott, I used a metal brush to clean the calipers and a bit of sand paper on places the brush can't reach, as for the wheels, only rough them a bit with sand paper and hard sanding where there is damage or grooves from the Kerb.

Did everything myself, I used 3M brake caliper spray cans from Supercheapauto, and brake cleaner.

For calipers, I used red and for wheels I used satin black.

The important thing is to follow the can instructions and not to spray too much, spray thin layers and keep moving your hand in bursts from side to side and repeat until you get the layer required, at the beginning, it will look like it is not covering, but by adding multiple thin layers, it will start to look good and smooth, obviously, some guys have tools and grind/sand to a professional standard, In my case, I only used sand paper and metal brush like I said earlier. last, I did this in mid of summer, You need good sun to dry, don't do this on wet rainy days if you don't have a sort of indoor paint drying tools. have any other questions, glad to help.

Looks good! I thought about doing mine when I had them apart, but just had to get the car back through the inspection the same day, so ran out of time.

I think they are powder coated with a ceramic compound, so quite different than painting.

Totally wish i had uploaded that segment from topgear where jeremy clarkson says 'How boring must a person be to decide "I'm going to paint my brake calipers" '.

:-)

Only tugging your chain boys :-)

Those merc rims are very classy. Shame about the badge admitting where they came from though! ;)

Of course, Clarkson is a motoring journalist with almost no understanding or interest in how a car actually works.

He's an entertainer, and if you can't find car related jokes funny, then perhaps you're taking it all a bit seriously.

Besides he's probably more qualified than you are, he's got an honorary doctorate in engineering afterall (lol).
