I wouldn't say $200 per tyre for a 16" rim is budget.

Also not just Hankooks, I've also had Champero GT-R's, which admittedly were pretty spot on for the money (ie, dirt cheap), but still very poor quality, and I have owned Samyang on my old Mazda MS-8 (what Kumho used to be called) which were just utter garbage, and not too cheap either as I recall - I remember replacing them with Bridgestones which only cost me a little more than what I had spent on the Samyang's a few years before, and were miles better.

Of course I'm still making a broad and biased comment, based on out of date data, but I figure I'v never been impressed by a Korean tyre in the way I have been with Japanese and European - and even NZ made tyres! Plus you don't save that much over buying Japanese or European. You have had a different experience, so you feel you can trust them.

I've read a lot of positive reviews for Korean cars recently, so I guess Korean engineering has probably come a long way in the last few years in all areas, but I've been burnt, so I'm not going back.

Depends at what time and what else is available locally to compare to for pricing.

The V8RS are about half the cost of Pilot Sports (similarly the new V12 EVO is as well) and IMO they are quieter and a little nicer feel and feedback, great tyres just not quite as much grip as Pilot Sports.

I should add that nothing beats top quality tyres and trust is not the way I would describe performance. I do have trust that most major tyre manufacutres load and speed ratings are accurate and I don't think that a good quality tyre from any major brand is going to fail.

If you are looking at larger sized tyres in the performance range cost is a big consideration particularly when you can pay $150 per tyre of $1000 per tyre.

I know I cannot afford to buy 4k worth of tyres but buying good tyres is the best thing/handeling modification you can do for any car ie a pulsar of a Ferrari.

Yes, some of the Bridgestones are still made locally in NZ. Specifically the Supercats I have on my Wife's runnabout. They are very budget at $119 each for a 15", but really are surprisingly good. All the performance Bridgestones in NZ are imported now as far as I know.

Yeah, I know what you mean Damian, I wish I could afford to spend a lot more on tyres, but my budget rarely goes past $250 per corner.

I had a limited selection when I bought the Hankooks, they were around the middle of the price range I was considering, and I just got some bad advise, or the guy had a different experience than mine, perhaps the car he had them on was better suited to them than mine - who knows - my fault for not doing my own research I guess.

One thing is they have worn quite well for a supposed middle to soft compound tyre - certainly cant complain that I havent had my moneys worth out of them.

No worries Matthew, I can understand how it all takes place.

Regarding the good low wear rate they are according to the manufactures spec a hard compound long wearing tyre so your wear expereience seems dead on. This is also why they don't perform all that well grip wise. Not sure where you got the middle to soft compound from (possibly the tyre fitter) but the performance and life is in balance with the manufactures specifications.
