Hey all i believe i am having a problem at the moment with my brakes, having developed a layer of rust that is causing the car to stall, we think this as there is a scraping noise and when reversing the car doesn't seem to get much momentum before stalling. Does anyone have an idea of the best way in which to clean the brakes?

rust on the brake rotors are nothing.

use them and the "rust" will come off.

steel wool, 2000 / 3000 grit sandpaper on the rotor surface. only do it very lightly.

check to see if the handbrake is adjusted properly.

also check the diff, wheel bearings while you have the car jacked up.

Yep the car has been dormant for nearly 6 months and is not rego'd so bit hard to give her a road run at the moment, will take the wheels off and hopefully give them a scrub etc.

Also possibly seized calipers in the front. Definitely sounds like brakes binding so either handbrake or front brakes likely.

Easy to confirm by jacking one end at a time.

Matt.
