Hello forum,

So i think my front right brake is seizing. After light driving/braking, there would be quite a bit of smoke coming from the drivers side bonnet that smells heavily of rubber or something close to rubber. From all the research i've done i believe it is a seizing brake caliper. Just wondering if this holds true or not.

Could there be anything else that could cause something like this? And also is it actually safe to drive on in terms of damage to the car itself. I have replacement calipers/rotors coming in from over east curtesy of a forum member.

I just wanted to post something here cause yesterday night when i was going to the airport it smelt really bad, like it didn't smell too much like rubber anymore. Braking also feels weird and spongy and if i pump the brakes it squeals a bit. Planning a full brake flush while i do my front calipers, hopefully it will help within this regard.

Another thing I wanted to ask, and i don't know where this belongs so i'll just attach it here is that after a bit of driving my ECT warning(warning? not sure but it says ECT with red background in my display unit) light comes on with a long beep. Just wondering if this was normal in a uzz31 with a manual conversion or is it related to the brakes somehow or what.

Cheers
Regards
Yang

I would say check the power steering pump leaking onto the alternator, If I remember correctly the ect error shows when the alternator dies but I'm sure someone will be along shortly to confirm or have another solution to check

Yang I'd also get my wheel bearings checked if I were you. Otherwise jack up each front wheel and give it a spin and see if it is free or making any grumbling noises.

Hmm yes will definitely do the spin theory when i do my front brakes as i've been suspecting bearing problems too.

Got this off a Fs thread on a manual converted soarer:
• Throws ECT error code after manual conversion – does not affect performance.

And also reading some other threads under electrical, it could be related to the braking issue. One thing after another i guess but more input definitely welcome.

Interesting read:

"There would be no speed signal as it comes from the gearbox (auto) the ECT warning must come from the gearbox ECU , so you need to provide either an earth or supply along the line from the ECU , cant tell which signal without the wiring diagram .
cruise control also needs a reference speed signal so unless you add the sensor somehow or tap into the speedo speed signal and use that as a reference"

Explains why my cruise control doesn't work either, ill leave blame for these on the manual conversion *crosses fingers*

Ect error is from manual conversion, it's saying that there is no auto transmission in the car, cruise control is with that ecu. just a set back from having the manual. small price to pay i think. The brakes on there aren't the standard v8 ones, they are from a sportivo. The smoke sounds like it's from the power steering and dripping on to the exhaust or something.didn't happen when i had it. check the fill up tank and follow the lines down to the pump. and feel around and see if you can feel oil and it's source. You got to realise that when you take the auto out, there's certain plugs that should be plugged in, they aren't there anymore as there is no auto transmission.

If the ect error is from the manual conversion to get rid of it just connect the 2 wires that went to the overdrive button, this will remove the error, the overdrive off light will be on the dash but the globe could be removed to fix that

Oh really sportivo brakes, any difference in size/braking power?

Power steering huh, i'll have to check the overfill bottles to see if anything is low but i didn't notice any change in power steering sensitivity.

@Nik Any guides you know of that you can link me? or possibly point me where abouts the wires would be, not too familiar with soarers at this stage

Try and find an old auto shifter, then look for the plug in the centre console that fits(there is only one that will fit the overdrive plug)

Checked all my fluid except coolant as i just finished driving home, all full except for my engine oil which is on roughly 1/4..gotta change that on sunday.

Still smoking though, happens every time i drive, but only happens once per drive where a load comes out from under the bonnet. Smells like rubber and looks white.

Since Shaydan has pointed out I have sportivo brakes, would it be possible for mods to move this to Mechanical? Or should i just start a new thread there? Thanks
