1993 TT soarer.
Amongst other things, I have a handbrake light that refuses to go out on my dash. I've replaced the brake fluid, ensure it's topped up but the light stays on. As a result I cannot use my cruise control. Since most of my driving is up and down the freeway this is very annoying.

I have a sensor in the lid of my reservoir and noticed that the wire that goes into the fluid is broken, I'm assuming this is why I'm getting the error on the dash.

Can someone tell me what value resistor I can plug in to fool it into thinking it's happy?

Can you not repair the broken wire?

Nah, it appears to have some diode or something on it. Tried soldering it but it still doesn't work.

Just unplug the sensor and leave it off. That's what i did anyway.

Thanks Jeff. I have no idea why I never thought about trying that. I feel like an idiot trying to work out what resistor to plug in when all I had to do was unplug it!
All good now

Spoke too soon. When I drive the car in the morning, it's fine but after about 5mins that handbrake light comes on again!! When I start the car after being warmed up, it stays off. My brake fluid level is full, so not sure what's causing this.

Dodgy sensor on handbrake itself ? Pretty sure there is one located on the handbrake unit in the car ?

Do you have a abs? Mine threw up the handbrake light when driving (and a brake error message initially though).
So maybe run a diagnostic? Mine ended up being low accumulator pressure.
Just waiting on my recon accumulator from Peter and it should be problem solved.

Richard I do have ABS and the accumulator keeps making a noise every few seconds, sounds like that's the problem then. My other soarer has abs but being a 1991 model it's completely different to the setup in this car (1993).

Ahahaha good English Richard :p
I would run a diagnostic though, it might be something different, if the motor is running constantly though (motor noise sounds like rubbing or whirring) it's probably the accumulator.

Yeah it's constantly whirring. BUT nothing shows up when I run diagnostics. I only have a speed sensor error when I run diags on the auto.
