My hand brake light comes on sometimes even when the brake is right down, would that mean that the hand brake may be too tight? It seems to do it when you accelerate hard and occasionally now and then.

I also get an engine light sometimes, mostly when I get to peak operating temperature. I own an '91 2.5 GT-T and the engine seems to run perfectly but it appears now and then.

Anyone any ideas about those two???

Handbrake will be a mechanical (mounting loose??) problem with the switch. It monitors the handbrake lever position not the brake cable itself so brake adjustment will have no effect.

Nathan, if while the engine is running and this brake light and alarm come up, then pull up the hand brake and see if you get another alarm. If you do then the original alarm isn't anything to do with your hand brake - worst luck.
If you don't then it's just an adjustment problem and you should be ok.

Mine has started doing this on occasion, but only when I turn conrners. Car was serviced 1000kms ago and fluid was checked and ok. Fluid still looks pretty much full. When the light comes on, if it doesn't switch off sraight away, a little lift and drop of the handbrake lever (about 20mm) and the light's off?

Nathan it is definately brake fluid sensor, its the fluid surging. We talked about it at tafe and my lecturers agreed that it most probably be fluid surging under hard +ve and -ve acceleration. You should try absolutely booting it you will get the same warning. I had the exact same problem and it wouldnt pass road worthy my fix... unplugged it and took it back, then plugged it back in after the test and when it starts to really annoy me, i check it.

This should be the warning your getting

And this is the sensor you just unplug to test that its brake fluid, check first that your canister is full. Then plug it back in once your comfortable that this is the culprit.

I wouldnt rely on a sensor to tell you how your brakes are, brakes arent the only things that might fail, sensor may fail aswell. Therefore you should try to check the fluid level visually.

Mine was doing similar sort of things was just a loose earthing point for that particular sensor in my case. My loose wiring was located just under the leather hand brake cover. Dunno if yours will be the same but might be worth checking :-)

My car is doing this now, exactly the same when I go around corners or when I boot it.

I dont want to take away the idea of it being a mechanical problem, so don't get complacent or anything.....

but I have this happen every now and then (particularly when really pushing it) and I happened to be on cruise control at the time - handbrake light came on and cruise control disengaged - I was like WHAT!

Turns out it was just my knee leaning on the handbrake lever and its very sensitive, so the slightest pressure upwards or sideways made the light come on.

But if it is happening randomly and for long periods, then ignore me - its obviously something more serious as mentioned.

Top up your brake fluid.

I was having the same problem, brake warning flashing under hard acceleration.

I changed brake fluid and bled the lines, no more warning message.
